The old Salt Lake Tribune building in dowtown Salt Lake City has been sold to a limited liability company managed in part by downtown commercial real estate broker Vasilios Priskos.
I'm not so sure this is good news. Aren't these guys the same guys that are land banking on several blighted lots in downtown(ie, the old Zephyr club building, etc.)?? Do they actually develop anything or do they just Land lord crummy parts of downtown? Besides, their name sounds like they're part of the mafia jk

Is this to reduce cost of another site, like the nw corner of State and 200s or the sw corner of W. Temple and 300s. It seems like this theater will be so understated that it won't make the kind of impact and destination draw that it is hoped to be. What do all of you think?

^^^ They will be demolishing some of those buildings and starting from scratch... that should enable them to create a new entrance on Main.

Stumbled across this site, of a rendering company....

http://www.kinateder.com/index.html

anyways, they had a model of the Triad Center original proposal back in the 80's.

For those not familar, the original plans for the Triad Center called for two twin 40+ story office towers, and three 30-story residential towers. But the company went bankrupt after phase 1 of the triad (which is all that exists today)

The pettiness and offensive remarks have come from both sides and I think to preserve some sense of decorum, Viperlord was wise to ban such topic discussions. Maybe someday we'll all grow up and can discuss differences of opinion and belief like more mature adults.

Boo-hoo. Too sad that didn't materialize. That would have been a nice tower to anchor the west side of the CBD.

There were originally twin towers proposed and three residential towers.

Oh well, the design was pretty ugly.

Also, a little teaser for you guys.

My company is working on a bid right now for construction services of a new retailer looking to expand along the Wasatch Front. I cant tell you the name of the company sorry, but I will say that they are looking at opening up 5 locations along the wasatch front: 3 Here in the SL valley, one in Utah County, and one in Davis County.

Anyways, the company says that SLC is a hot spot right now for expansion. In fact the client was saying that some stores are closing across the nation, and moving refocusing into better markets like the SLC metro. So, we shall see what other retailers out there are lurking.

They have updated the Salt Lake City council meeting on on November 13th. It gives a list of who will be speaking, as far as the downtown developers go. Could be interesting to listen to Cowboy Partners speak. maybe some news on block 74 if we are lucky.

I remember you talking about this a while back, Comrade...

Yeah, it looks very... well, shiny 80's glass. Of course, it would be more imposing and look better in the skyline than say the current Key Bank tower.

It also would have been interesting to see how the west side of downtown would have developed with the completed project in comparison (maybe more height?) to how it exists today with the Gateway renaissance.

Can you at least give a hint as to what type of retailer it is?

Just because someone gets defensive or is offended by some of my remarks, doesn't mean those remarks have been insolent. This defensive reaction is more likely the result of some insecurity on his/her part. Those things I have stated are important matters, and although they might bring some things into question that fellow forum members might find uncomfortable questioning, they remain pertinent to the conversation of development possibilities and inabilities here in Utah, and in our great capitol city.

urbanboy, I totally agree with u, and I totally get it, but Its completely obvious that nobody else wishes to discuss it or acknowlege it because it is indeed a touchy issue... and we all know that it just turns into a typical battle of wits and nobody wins. It's like telling a blind person what the sun looks like... you're not going to get very far.

Neuroguy, I completely agree with you. urbanboy by virtue of his past remarks has shown complete insolence. The fact that he doesn't understand how inappropriate his constant interjection of tirades are into this forum, speaks more loudly than any of his protests. These vitriolic tirades of his against the Mormon Church started long before the Calif. proposition vote.

However, the problem is every time someone such as yourself or another forumer feels compelled to respond, Urbanboy leads the discussion onto more aggressive insolence. Usually the response from fellow forumers and the moderator has been to politely ask him to just move his vitriol to another forum. Nonetheless, his rants continue.

If fellow forumers were to feel compelled to answer Urbanboy in the same speak and formula that he has repeatedly used in his posts, there would be a long list of very cutting derisions that could be thrown at him. We all know what they are, and it is exemplary that no one has stooped to that same level that he has demonstrated.

Neuroguy, At this point it would be appropriate if the moderator deleted post #7472 above and yes, our response posts also.

It helps with the economic status which can indirectly equate to future projects.

trib building

I could be wrong, but I thought the old Trib building is the one that the new Theater is going in at on the other side of main on that photo above. Am I wrong? Did they own that building, too?

This will add the the 24hr vibrancy of Main St. How many actual all-residential buildings are there this far north on Main St? Are there any?

What about all of Main St. north of the Grand America to the Conference Center? I was thinking the American Towers, but they aren't technically on Main St. are they?

Right at the moment, there aren't any of significant size, except for maybe the old Grand Hotel. I would definately like to see a lot more residential/mixed-use on Main. I think we're going to see allot more in the next five years with the advent of CCC and the continued expansion of the TRAX. Personally, I would love to live on Main. If I were in the market right now and there were options on Main right now, I think Main street would be a primary consideration.
