And it's great to see the Broadway back to life. I love that project. And do those pictures indicate that the Marmalade is back to work as well? I haven't heard.

My first impression was that the Peery looks handsome... not like anything else in Salt Lake. Kind of reminds me of something from San Francisco.

It certainly doesn't look as bad as I expected it was going to. When I saw it a few weeks ago, it was only half painted, and the whole building was the same eggplant color, none of the white trim had been added yet. It looked pretty bad then, but it has actually come together nicely.

Yes, they are going to build the west side of the project at Marmalade. It's the commercial portion of the project.

I just posted this on the Western Energy Forum, but I'm going to put it here as well because it concerns the negative impact of energy development...

Late Tuesday afternoon, on my way back from a business trip to Columbia SC, I saw a horrifying sight on I-20, just west of Augusta GA--a heavy duty tractor trailer carrying a load of nuclear junk from the DoE weapons site in Aiken SC (Just north of Augusta GA) Several things frightened me about the truck.

First, the nuclear crap container on the truck was a reminder of the permanent poison that is being "temporarily" dumped in Carlsbad NM. I hate to use the word temporarily because the stuff may never leave. Hate to see this crap put anywhere.

Second, the nuclear on this truck is not your run-of-the-mill spent, nuclear power fuel rods. Nope!. This is the stuff left over from nearly 50 years of making nuclear weapons at Savannah River, meaning it is much, much hotter with a much longer half-life than spent fuel rods.

Third, the truck carrying the stuff had the transport company's logo on the driver's side door. Guess who? You guessed it--Energy Solutions, the company with their name all over the Jazz Arena.

Fourth, immediately in front of the transport truck was another truck, heavily armored, with abosolutely NO markings on it. I'm guessing the truck contained a hazmat team in case an accident happened and, quite possibly, armed guards to make sure bad guys do not high-jack the truck.

Fifth, and possibly worst, almost exactly one mile in front of this two-truck convoy, was a complete repeat--another two-truck convoy. I have to wonder why this crap is being trucked instead of handled by rail, which would be much safer and a lot less public.

Finally, although I researched the disposal of the crap from the Savannah River site and read that it was headed for Carlsbad NM, I don't trust Energy Solutions. I know, I know, I know, there are probably a billion regulations that would keep that crap out of the Energy Solutions dumpsite in Western Utah. But Energy Solutions has never been completely above board, and we all know how well regulated the Country is these days.

It did look they were prepping the columns for concrete for the other wings. I will be back down there on Saturday and will get closer photos.

I have to agree with most of you on here. The Peery looks amazing, it looks very classic to me.

I also have to agree that there is often time ALOT of negativity on here regarding projects. Yes there are many projects that aren't ideal and could be improved and some that shouldn't ever happen or won't ever happen but we really are in a fast growing metro, that in spite of the economic downturn we still have well over $2 billion dollars in development occurring in the city as we speak. I would venture to guess that many cities would love to have just a portion of that occurring in their downtown.

I think I like the "eggplant" color for the Peery better than the sage it's been for the last while...I don't think I'd like my own house that color, but with the white trim and detail it looks nice.

For those who have wounder ( Like me ) the Grand America Hotel is 328 ft. I sent an e-mail asking how tall is the hotel and they wrote back this morning. It was funny that no one seem to know that including myself. I went to a few websites trying to find out and no one seem to know. Well now we know.

At 328 ft that puts it at the 7th tallest building in Salt Lake. ( Well that's after Tower one gets built. )

So I decided to take a photo shoot today of a few places. Unfortunatly I dont have a major expensive camera like some people on this thread. So, some of the pics turned out not as nice as I had planned.

Construction at 700 South and State, not sure whats going in, probably a small retail store.

Mountain America Credit building on 750 south and state.

One and Nine Condos, completed looking pretty nice.

Providence Place Apartments site. Lot cleared, fence still up

Ballet West Academy site on 200 south. Still just a dirt lot.

The view from my office parking lot. There used to be two single family homes across the intersection there, but they were recently demolished so that Mark Miller Toyota could expand their car lot.

The old house has been demolished, future site of a 5 story apartment structure 950 south 200 west.

Kirtland Condos 300 west 750 south

Artspace Commons: 400 West 800 South.

I love who they get financing through. I also found this WaMu credit card ripped and cracked by my foot. So, Lehman and WaMu, ironic???

Also across the street from the Artspace Commons is the Salt Lake Fleet Maintenance site that will be moved once the new one opens. With the artspace commons and the fleet site being developed in the future it could really spruce up the area.

Broadway Park Lofts: 350 west 300 south
The columns and foundations are being poured for the other wings.

Looking up to the crane of 222 South Main through my windshield. I like how the blue haze at the top of my window added to the effect.

Great pics Viper. I was down there at Capital Theater getting Wicked tickets today at 10:30. I got my 8 tickets. Dang they are expensive. Might have seen you driving around and not even known it.

I agree with Comrade and dont think the flagpole counts either, however, this also means that the Wells Fargo is also the second tallest in the city based on that standard (400' to rooftop, 424' including the small antenna)... contrary to what people continue to think on this forum.

Salt Lake's City Creek development getting a new neighbor

This year we've been following the huge City Creek construction project in downtown Salt Lake. It's supposed to be completed sometime in 2012. Now there's another big project on the drawing board that will take place right next door.

There are discussions with developers from throughout the country, who Farrington says are anxious to get going.
