The Daniel Coffey concept for the State/Lake station could look real nice right there......

State Street really benefits from the addition of theWit. The last piece of the puzzle will be redoing the el station (whenever that might be .. hopefully by 2016 I must say).

I like the cantilevers and a few other details in the Coffey designs, but overall, he has a sort of screwy aesthetic sense. It feels just kind of oblique to any normal strand of architectural thinking prevailing today. I think he should retire to Tampa or San Diego right away, where they would eat his stuff up. (If he could land there in the late 1980s, that might help him too).

Emporis has just published a height from blueprints for 533 North St. Clair, the Brininstool+Lynch/Sutherland Pearsall Development project that was recently approved. It will be 534'-1".

A forumer at SSC is reporting that construction has recommenced at Staybridge Suites. Does anyone have more info?

"First, please excuse my construction lingo(I'm more into the finished product than the actual process). I saw what looked to be a crane with an elevator. There were a few construction workers on site putting materials in this elevator. Next door to Staybridge is a hotel conversion(I believe its being called Hotel Felix) taking place. That too is having construction but I was very sure not to mix up the two. You can definitely move this one back to under construction."

I just took a walk by and it certainly isn't a busy sight. There where just these two guys with the helmets, and a security guard. The truck in the background was for and electrician, but the name escapes me.

For me, I need to see a lot more activity before I would consider this back on. They could have very well just been retrieving supplies left on site.

Well, it seems the best thing about the Cubs game was the view from the blimp. The skyline was beautiful at sunset.

This looks pretty good. Like a lot of anonymous European modern architecture - very good glass.

Has anyone else noticed that the grotesque mutilation of 55 Monroe has begun in earnest now, opening swaths of the wall up with those disgusting little slots they are making. It already looks like shit and they haven't even gotten to the wost parts...

What are they doing? Are they going to replace all of the historic platforms on the L downtown or just there. I love those platforms, they are so grungy and all but I love em for that. I guess that to an outsider though, they would look like crap so I guess they need to updated but Ill miss em for sure once theyre gone.

The surface parking lot at Randolph and Jefferson (150 N) was blocked off this morning and a soil drilling truck was on site. I think the proposal is a boutique hotel of 12 or so floors.

Indeed - there are no cars parked, and there are orange and red markings throughout the lot. I'm not sure if we've ever seen a revised rendering for the site. The only info I can find says it will be a 120 room boutique hotel developed by JMH hotels. It'd be nice if another surface lot bites the dust.

Is anyone going to this? I'd like to go to voice support but I'm not sure I'll be able to get out of the office in time to make it. The neighboring highrises are both rentals full of urbanites, so I'd like to think there won't be much NIMBY opposition here.
