That mobile crane kind of reminds me of the one we have in Murray back in 2005 when crews were working on the 15-story IHC Main Tower. Sure it's not as big, but it's tall.

New market opens with handful of vendors in Pioneer Park

... Press, along with about a dozen other vendors, took over a small patch of the park on Sunday for the first ever Downtown International Market. Vendors sold everything from the Thai statues to tie-dyed T-shirts. Though the market was small on its first day, organizers hope it will eventually rival the huge Downtown Farmers Market held Saturdays in the same spot.
"We plan on opening up earlier next year and making this a new tradition," said organizer Ahmed Samatar, who arrived in the U.S. in 1994 as a Somali refugee. Samatar said he decided to create the international market to give people a chance to buy goods from around the world and to give international vendors a chance to sell things from their homelands.

There really are some great old buildings along that block of Main Street including the one that is currently being uncovered. Thanks for the pics T-Mac.

It also looks as if the Daynes Music building is getting a new 1st floor tenant. Did anyone else notice that they have re-painted the old Daynes sign on the building? I really like that whoever owns it now has taken the time to restore the painted sign on the north side.

We can hope that whatever is going in is some sort of retail.

I wonder if they would let me rent the second or third floor as a place to live?

Great pics Future Mayor. I did notice that they repainted the sign. I love the Daynes building. More character in that building than in many of our newer buildings. Let's hope the trend continues and they uncover the rest of the buildings in the downtown area that have been hidden for years. I really want them to uncover the yardstick building.

That crane looks like the same kind that collapsed while finishing off the Brewers Stadium in Millwaukee.

that's the building to the north of it. Taken from the shipler collection at the Utah State Historical Society website. ... let me know if the picture displays for you.

At one point I was trying to arrange financing to put a club inside that space that would make a sweet club, minus the art hanging walls of course. It would also make a nice grand foyer for a theater.

I like what they have done with the interior or this building, and the exterior while nothing spectacular, sure beats covering up all the front window with some ugly aluminum face.

We really do have some great building in our fair city, yes we have lost a good number that will forever be missed but we do have some treasures and obviously there are many more treasures that are just currently covered up.

Wow. thanks for the tour Urbanboy. I had no idea SLC had so many beautiful buildings. Sure I have walk by or drove by all these buildings a million times, but I have never taken the time to just walk in and see what those lobbies look like. I makes me look at old buildings at a whole new way.
