I went to the open house tonight for the new west by-pass (for some reason they keep calling it Pinkie Road even though it won't replace the current Pinkie Road??).

Here is info on the proposed route, etc. Sorry I can't figure out how to paste the pic so you will have to go check it out.

The route would be somewhat west of the city...they want to start construction next year.

The city guys at the event said no more news on the intermodel site but that there are lots of rumours on other companies coming soon. Stay tuned.

I should mention the 10 year plan includes an interchange at highway #1, an interchange at highway #11, a significant upgrade to Dewdney West including a connection to the by-pass and upgrades to 9th Ave North to the by-pass as well. Lots of work....

There are actually two different owners of the Klein's stores. They are brothers. If you notice some have Blue signs and some have Red signs. Well the red ones are the ones that seem to be closing their doors. I know he also owns a bunch of other real Estate around town like condos and stuff.

The other (Blue Signs) owner just sold one of his stores (Corner of Vic and Arcola). But the others seem to be going strong.

I always thought the whole idea was quite unrealistic - that a certain group should be entitled to deeply subsidized lofts at taxpayers expense not because they are disabled, new immigrants or otherwise underpriviledged but solely because they made a lifestyle choice to be artists?

On South Lewvan as many of you know, they're enhancing the Gordon Rd intersection with dual-turning lanes, new lights, etc...As well, they're building two new intersections to the south and north of Gordon Rd.

What I noticed a while back was that when they had installed curbing at the edge of the new asphalt, there doesn't seem to be any storm drains?? I noticed this one rainy day when all the water pooled up against the new curb. And the same goes for all the new turning lanes, curbing, etc…As far as the new intersections go, it looks like they’re close to laying down asphalt.

South Lewvan does not have storm drains,etc… from what I can see. The road is like a highway and simply relies on the crown of the road to drain the water into the ditch. So now that they have added this new concrete curbing, I’m a little confused on how rain water is supposed to drain off the road.

Is this simply going to be something that gets ignored because the cost of installing drainage would be too much? Is this cost cutting? Or am I missing something.

^ As far as I can remember, there are catch basins at least on the east side of south Lewvan Drive in the swale. I don't remember if there is any center swale drainage collection.

I had a second look, and I guess I can see some drains at the end of the curb 'islands' or boulevard - whatever you want to call it. Maybe when they pave, they can compensate and have the water drain but it doesn't look like it. Oh well, I'll wait until they're done

The Roof Top Bar & Grill downtown on Vic, is having their VIP night Saturday and opens to the public next Wednesday. Apparently they actually have a garden on the roof, including grass - I am not sure if it is the "sustainable" variety or plastic.
