So here is a question from a guy who diesn't know much about airplanes: With the announcement of YEG-Maui (that is a future seasonal route, correct?) by WestJet, what kind of hardware will they be flying? I thought that distance was outside of the range of a traditional 737?

737 next gen have a range up to 3000 nautical miles. (not sure how far Maui is) - but I think it can be somehow modified to go farther. (i think)

I believe the Maui flight is actually Air Transat, not Westjet. So it will be either an A310 or one of their A330s doing the run - which is well within their operating ranges.

YEG-OGG (Kahului, Maui) is 2,760 nautical miles, or 5,111 km. This is within the range of the 737-800, and maybe also for the -700.

1,000-stall parkade expansion opens at EIA

More stalls, better technology to help customers get on their way faster


Edmonton, Alta. –Today, Edmonton International Airport (EIA) opened a 1,000-stall parkade expansion. These additional spaces will provide more parking options for customers as passenger growth continues and the airport expansion proceeds.

Features of the newly expanded parkade include:

· An additional 1,000 parking stalls in the parkade, across all four levels

· A relocated toll plaza to help drivers queue safely and quickly to exit the parkade

· Pay & Go parking kiosks to help customers get on their way faster


The $47-million parkade expansion is the first high-profile project completed as part of EIA’s five-year, $1.1-billion airport terminal expansion. It was completed on time and on budget. The general contractor was Stuart Olson. The parkade expansion was fast-tracked to add more parking capacity to match growing parking demand.

“We are committed to moving customers quickly and efficiently through the airport,” said Reg Milley, President and CEO, Edmonton International Airport. “Even prior to this expansion, EIA offered travellers the most airport parking spaces per capita in Canada; these additional spaces will help us to offer even better customer service.”

To save time, customers can pre-pay for Parkade and Value Park at Pay & Go parking kiosks in the airport terminal and exit the lot via one of five new express exists.

More than six million passengers moved through EIA in 2007. Another four million customers were on site to see them off or welcome them. Passenger traffic at EIA continues to grow at a steady pace and has increased by seven per cent year-to-date. Passenger traffic is expected to reach 6.5 million passengers by year-end.

With more strong growth expected, EIA is continuing to invest in additional parking areas and services over the next several years.

^ Thank god, for those of us too lazy to use the park & fly these new spaces will make it a lot easier to get a parking spot close to the terminal.

YEG-OGG will be operated by Air Transat A330-200's this winter.

The routing will be YYC-YEG-OGG-YEG-YYC.

AC will reduce the YEG-LHR route to 4x weekly.

It is only a seasonal change, back to daily in the spring according to AC.

Edmonton, Alta. – Edmonton International Airport (EIA) welcomes a spicy new addition to the growing lineup of terminal food and beverage outlets. EIA passengers can enjoy the southwest-style offerings of a full-service Chili’s restaurant in the domestic passenger departures lounge late this fall.

“We know that our passengers are looking for more variety in dining options before their flights, and Chili’s will offer many new and fresh options for our customers,” says Reg Milley, EIA President and CEO.

This licensed outlet—the fifth Chili’s in the Edmonton region—will be located between gates 52 and 54 in the domestic departures lounge, offering diners an ample view of the runways while they enjoy the Chili’s experience. Chili’s is a hugely popular restaurant chain, offering guests a casual breakfast, lunch or dinner and world-famous margaritas.

So am I the only one who finds that the smell of Chili's restaurants really clings to you? Like it gets into your clothes and jacket, and it lasts for days? It's the only chain restaurant where I've noticed that, and I don't go there very often because of it. Just me?

But a recent chili's patron is not someone I'd want to be sitting next to on a flight to London or even TO.

It can, but that depends on the restaurant and its HVAC systems. You walk into New Asian Village and you come out with a nice smell. Add Haweli's and Khazana to the list as well.

Well everyone's buggered if they fly on Air Canada in the morning with that God awful smell for that c*&p they are trying to pass off as food!! If they could at least get rid of the smell,. I mean it is a confined space, and airlines for many years have taken the smell of anything they serve onboard into account, but not so it seems AC!!!
