Yet another reason we need that major convention hotel adj. to the Palace. Large ballrooms would be better able to accomodate situations such as this.

Trade show gets so big that the Salt Palace can't hold it

The Outdoor Retailers show has spilled out of the expanded Salt Palace and into the lobby and floor of the Energy Solutions Arena across the street. (Francisco Kjolseth/The Salt Lake Tribune)

Already, the expanded Salt Palace Convention Center cannot contain the ever-growing needs of the Outdoor Retailer Summer Market Trade Show.
The trade show, which opened Friday and runs through Monday, has filled every inch of available space in the Salt Palace and spilled across 300 West into EnergySolutions Arena.

It's bigger than ever
The Outdoor Retailer Summer Market
Trade Show will be
the largest held to date
in Salt Lake City:
* More than 23,000 manufacturers, retailers and suppliers of outdoor industry products.
* $19 million is the four-day show's estimated economic impact to Salt Lake County.
* $5.8 billion is the amount outdoor recreation in general contributes annually to Utah's economy, supporting 65,000 jobs and generating $300 million in sales tax revenues yearly.

Property Description:
4 Story plus mezzanine and full height basement which has been home to Zim's Crafts for over 40 years is now available. This building was built as a warehouse in the early 1900's and is virtually unchanged on the interior. Wood plank floors on all levels, cast iron decorative columns and windows on all sides of the building make this property a natural for retail/residential conversion. Many historic features are still intact underneath the current facade.
Me likely!
I am going to start crunching some numbers on this baby, see what I can come up with. Thanks for the post Viper. This could make a very nice first project.

It's my neighborhood too. My friend also lives in the area and she ran into that guy who is opening Jam while jogging one day. She said he was a really nice guy and was telling her to come and bring all her friends. Sounds like he really is trying to open a nice place that is all inclusive. I wish him success.

Just got back from Richmond Virginia, and while I was there, looked up some stats on the city. It is almost the exact same size city proper, and metro of SLC, so it got me thinking. It's skyline is more impressive than SLC, but not in another league. Also, it seemed to have a little more street life, but it also had a lot more poverty. It was weird to see Elegant well maintained rowhouses, next to old abandoned boarded up rowhouses, next to brand new modern rowhouses that had been designed both as modern and also to fit in with the 250 year old ones (that part was cool). I guess what I'm saying is that every place is different, and while SLC is not the model of urbanity, it does just fine when compared to other cities its size, with different strengths and weaknesses.

Lastly, seeing all these stalled projects, Kennedy, Broadway Park Lofts, Marmalade, is pretty depressing. Is Allen Millo the developer of Broadway, or just the architect? Because this could have a negative result for Metro Park West as well.

I would like to see a photo of what that original facade looked like. I don't think it would have been possible to have built an uglier reclad on the front.

Great Pics this morning T-Mac, I just got off my Nordictrack, and now I'm out to mow the lawn. I think you're morning exercise was a lot funner, LOL.

A little comment about the Mountain America Credit Union project. Maybe my taste in this regard is a little different, but I have been very impressed with their new buildings around the metro, and how they have been interpreting this particular style. I think their projects will have a lasting appeal, and even someday take on a very distinct place in the local architectural history.

I like those little shops to the right of Mountain America. I would sure like to see them brought back to their original charm. Unfortunately, they'll probably be bulldozed. That would make a great little restaurant/club island with added sidewalk dining.

Sounds like a good idea. I too have a spread sheet that calculates BTCF as well as ATCF and includes all the key numbers like NOI. I would like to be able to make the numbers work, I have several people that I can approach as investors if I can simply get the numbers to pull through for me. I think I'll crunch some numbers in the next few days as I make my way back to the Wasatch. While in the hotel of course, not while driving.

My understanding is that the entire combined total population of Metro Richmond, which includes all connected areas as pictured below would be approx. 1.2 million. Where as the combined population of the Metro Wasatch is over 2.2 million. We would'nt leave Ogden or Provo off of the Wasatch population any more than we would leave Petersburg off of the Richmond Metro.

Richmond is Cool

I lived in Richmond ten years ago for about a year. I visited recently as well. It is a great city with many beautiful neighborhoods and incredible parks. You have to go to Maymont if any of you ever go there. The only major complaint is that they do not have any transit systems outside an ordinary bus system. They do have quite a few very walkable neighborhoods though that are very fun places to be. It is true that there is a lot of poverty there i.e. Hull Street Road. Yes it is a street and a road at the same time. Richmond is only 90 minutes from DC and an hour from Charlotesville and an hour from the beach. Richmond is a great place to live.

I really like the way the Metro Condos turned out. We need more projects to have this type of design.
