OK...a tip for the YEG supporters on THIS forum...

First tip is new flights YEG to LAS non-stop
Second tip is they are cheap - but book WAY OUT THERE...

SUNWING has air only from YEG to LAS for NEXT YEAR 2009 through to Oct 2009 on sale now...some are 49.00 one way plus tax making it less than 300.00 all in return if you pick your days. The Thursday am flights are non-stop - and some back are also - check the dates and times as some go through YYC and vice-versa. Avoid the YYC ones and spend an extra day or so and check out the area. They are flying Thursday am and Sunday pm nonstop to LAS competing with Westjets new flight...at GREAT times. Is it also possible that YEG might not get nonstop flights to LAX and EWR (Newark)? I don't want to rain on anyone's parade, but it's quite possible IMO that YEG's going to have flight reductions and stuff because of rising fuel prices, and not just seasonal slowdown in demand. But there's a kind of silver lining to this situation - at least there won't be as much air traffic congestion down the road.

However, it's nice to see things like Air Transat planning to operate a nonstop to OGG (Kahului, Maui, HI).

Maybe it's a bit late for me to say this, but I find the hotel rendering OK. Not horrible, but still a lot better than a damned Greenwoods or Super 8-style architecture. It would've been better if we saw a colour rendering, though! At least it looks like it's got an enclosed walkway so people don't have to deal with outdoor conditions when going between the hotel and YEG.

That WestJet news release made it sound like WS was doing unplaned schedule changes. Most of those flights are seasonal anyhow???

Fuel prices are starting to fall back to more normal numbers.

The bad news AC vacations drops Veradero from YEG but will still operate to PUJ and MBJ.

Sunwing is no longer showing air only YEG to LAS from Feb to Oct and now shows air only Sept-Oct.!! and no packages. They need to get a handle on what they are doing!!!

$400 return YEG-LAS...can do a lot better actually.

Air Canada in Mid Jan-End of March do flight passes, the top end one lets you fly anywhere in Canada and the continental US, that AC & Jazz fly to, on Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays, and this cost $800 + tax per month

A standard YEG-YHZ flight would cost you more than this, so this is a great deal...this year they also did it again in April & May. I took advantage both occasions, flying off somewhere almost every weekend, excellent value and as the bulk of the flights I took were on Jazz, I didn't even have to put up with AC's abominable service..just wish Westjet would do a similar thing

2008 City Centre Airport Report

In response to a request for information, City Administration provided a report to Council on June 18, 2008, on possibilities and challenges associated with the City-owned land leased to Edmonton Airports for the operation of the Edmonton City Centre Airport (previously known as the Municipal Airport).

The report does not focus on flight service provided at the airport, since this is an area of authority and expertise managed by Edmonton Airports. The report does not recommend either closing the airport or expanding service. The report summarizes land use potential and limitations, financial issues associated with the airport, and impact on development and City tax revenue in and around the airport. Several maps are included, outlining the airport protection overlay in which building heights are limited, and potential development concepts.

Additional Studies

To assist City Council in exploring possible changes to uses of the land occupied by the airport, Administration was directed to conduct or coordinate several studies on how certain issues would be dealt with if the City Centre Airport closed:

* Edmonton Airports' analysis of how the current City Centre Airport aviation users could be accommodated at other facilities;
* Alberta Health's description of how medevac and health services could be provided;
* Feasibility assessments, including environmental considerations, of possible development concepts;
* Analysis of development opportunities and gains to the downtown; and
* All legal considerations

City Council will be provided interim status reports on these studies on September 2, 2008.

Non-statutory Public Hearings

The Executive Committee of City Council will hold a Non-Statutory Public Hearing on this item, as scheduled below:

* Tuesday, September 2, 2008, from 1:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.,
* and, if necessary, Wednesday, September 3, 2008, from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Edmonton International is sure taking off in a hurry, and with the planned expansion, there is no limit to what it (as well as Edmonton itself) can achieve. It is a bright future no matter how you look at it.

It isn't a huge marker. Many airports at a 10mil mark are sitting just like YEG. Look at Indianapolis for example.

Yes very true, but in that time frame the other airports in Canada will have also grown. Alot will have changed by 2018. With the new terminal your airport will move to the next level of service in about 2012. You will then have left behind the other airports you are catagorized with in Canada currently.
