Hey guys, any truth to the rumor of them announcing (In Aug or Sept) the development of 2 new office towers downtown?

It seems like a mini 'Food district' is forming (Former Western's, Atlantis, Crave, Golf's, O'Hanlons, Michi's, Beer Brother's, etc.), If only we can stop Restaurant Chains from opening in the east end..
Stopped in for drinks at BB last night mid-evening. One complaint I heard when I originally asked about the place was that the beer was generally overpriced. I observed quite the contrary. The prices were not impressive but quite standard for a lounge in Regina. The highest one I noticed was Stella Artois for $8. Not unheard of in Regina as that is about what an Earls or a Moxie's charge.

I did ask about local beer and as was reported previously they basically have no true local beer. On this evening they had GW and a Calgary beer. I elected to try a Penticton beer called "Anarchist." Enjoyed it thoroughly.

This is a brilliant streetscape if I ever saw one. Packed patio on Scarth - would be nice if there were a few patios in that immediate block. Neverthless very beautiful. Drove by Atlantis on the way out and it was bumpin - had live guitarist/singer at 10PM at night.

Would be nice indeed. Be great if some local franchises like Brewsters and Houston Pizza invested in some new eateries downtown.

Interesting stuff lately, thanks everyone.

I don't know if anyone heard this but Earl's will be located in the old East Kelsey's. (Reliable source, I trust her)

Visions recently opened on Rochdale just behind Tim Hortons. (Haven't seen that mentioned yet)

Boy do I ever want a tower observation deck in Regina. Calgary got theirs when they were a fairly young city. It doesn't have to be just concrete. Think condos ascending up it. A 35th floor observation deck, maybe 40, resteraunts, shopping, entertainment and possibly even a hotel, just depends on how it's designed!! And just what we can all dream up!! Looking forward to the other rumoured towers too!!

Bitten on Broad is expected to open next week. Here's a facebook group for the restaurant to show the before and after photos. http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=21454468869

New store or is the south one moving? The old East Kelseys looks smaller than the south Earls too.

I'd heard speculation (nothing concrete, just rumour) that Swiss Chalet might come back there; they closed the old location because it couldn't accomodate drivethrough as all stores must now.

Anyone know when the new bus palace is supposed to be finished? Went past there last weekend and it looks amazing.

-Taylor Field was originally constructed in 1927.
-Stadium facilities lag significantly behind other CFL stadiums - this is from personal experience (I've been to seven CFL stadiums), especially up until two years ago
-Renovations or construction of a new stadium is long overdue
-It will eliminate the need for costly temporary seating to be rented once a year for large concerts/Grey Cup
-A Canadian bid for World Cup 2018 is contingent on ten Canadian stadiums meeting minimal FIFA requirements - this could be huge - but of course very much an unknown at this time

Most importantly, this province and city have supported this team uniquely for a long time. I would not necessarily expect a BC consultant to understand anything about the team or the relationship of this community to it.

I ran into Jim Hopson at a party Fri night and asked him about this. He said the committee is looking at all options. Constructing a new $250 million stadium is an acheivable dream, he says, but he is realistic and know that this is not the most likely scenario.

whoah went to the rider game today, wonder if anyone else here went, well the downtown completely disapeared in the storm. it was quite amazing. Does anyone know if the space between taylor and the downtown will get reno'd because i hope so it really distracts from the great view.

Yes, I was there getting soaked. I don't think it's a bad view to downtown although the Empire offsale and that block isn't very picturesque. (I sit on the west side.)

Apparantley a new store, Don't think the old location is moving!!! I hope not!

I doubt that!

No worries. In any case it was a reminder for me to try them.

It was suppose to be up and running by now but "construction delays" have pushed opening to later this fall (October? I think).

Then SaskPower can do something with the old STC site as they bought the property.

There are numerous planned projects that are up in the air because of soaring contruction and labour costs, delays and uncertainty. Contractors are unwilling to commit to fixed prices or timetables for fear of getting burned and developers similarly don't want to commit to something when they don't know the ultimate costs or completion dates. Construction financing is a problem for the same reasons.

Wow...where did this come from?

Great news! 750 jobs is huge!

That has been in the works for the last 3 years behind the scenes....like so many other projects are.

It should be within the annexed area shown on the cities map. http://www.regina.ca/Page2751.aspx The city is proposing to annex 4 miles out (6.5kms)

A little more info on this at the link below. It is a million square feet!! $200 million investment. 1400 trucks per week. We have never seen a building anywhere near this size or cost in Saskatchewan.

750 jobs immediately, increasing to 1,500 jobs by 2017. That's one huge distribution centre!
