In my opinion, great skylines have new buildings that barrow from existing buildings. The overall skyline tends to have more harmony like in Minneapolis than Los Angeles. Ashton barrows from it’s neighbors which is nice since it is sooo close. I hope the next generation of architects designing in Austin automatically barrow the glass or stone or even the shape of existing buildings.

Thanks for the shots, Kevin, especially the Concordia area. I didn't realize they were already pouring columns there.

Here are a few shots of the Four Seasons Residences I took while taking a short (and hot) stroll Saturday morning:

The first floor/lobby area. Very tall ceilings!

This was just laying on the sidewalk right outside the fence.

Was it lying right outside one of the gates into the project? They might use it like a door stop to prop open a gate while trucks are going through. That's my only guess.

^Hee, Hee... It might um, look like something er, really necessary in the construction of a class A building. I bet it is a template or some simple device for shimming/gauging a specific and not so important thing in the building. But it very well could be used to hold a gate open on the outer fence. Funny stuff and great pics as usual.

Nice of you to throw our fair city such a comparison to what I know to be a very nice place ie. Portland. We may never see the sort of transport system of that caliber, and it is a shame. But we do have lots of space to grow and no strong strategy in place to provide such a usable system.

You forgot to throw in that the climate of both is vastly different. A cross between the 2 would be near perfect.

Is it just me or are the floor plates on the Four Seasons Tower really really thin??? I mean for goodness sake they seem so thin that I don't see how you can even place heavy furniture on them without breaking through let alone the sounds that you would probably hear. No wonder that building is not going to be that tall with such tiny floor plates.

Portland in the summer is awful since nobody has air conditioners. Portland in the winter is kinda dicey. Sometimes nice, sometimes a snow-blasted hellish wasteland echoing with the sounds of bus tires spinning out and people yelping as they travel to their closest train station.

I'm not sure how thick the floors usually are in a building of this size but according to the building's website it sounds pretty solid:

Exquisite masonry and glass exterior

Solid, durable reinforced concrete construction

Thick 8" concrete floors reduce low frequency floor to floor vibrations and noise transmissions

Building design is based on specialized wind tunnel analysis. Wind forces are carried and absorbed by a central reinforced concrete core. All residences in the building are protected by a state-of-the-art fire control system.

Ashton or Altavida is moving along slowly now the last 3 floors will take some time. 360 was the same way. The spring is really moving a warp speed I think they may be at more than a floor a week maybe one evey 4 days. The Austonians 10th floor is complete and it is a tall floor. Starting on 11 it should move on at a good clip now. Four seasons is a large building and as with the w should never average more than a floor every 2 weeks.

Looks like the tower portion will go as planned after all.

kvue just did a story on the transition from the parking garage to the tower.

they were at that press conference.

new renderings too (i cant find them online yet though)

Just saw the kvue story with a fuzzy new rendering. Did they completely redesign the tower? It definately does not look like the same elliptical design we've all seen before. If I'm looking at it correctly though I like this design better. I do wander about switching the floorplans around on the buyers...

i dont think so...i think its just because weve never seen a rendering that looks up at the tower and therefore it looks different. colors look different though. remember how 360's rederings made it look green, purple, then normal glass color? i dont think the building has changed at all. they would have had to file a design change with the city. anyone want to check and see if they did? i dont know how to get into stuff like that.
