Pherek, phenomenal update. I miss the days (around a year ago) when people would do an update like that almost weekly.

Great job! Even when I visit I don't know some of the smaller dev's are located that you caught, which is nice.

Wow, looks like Chicago is getting a steady stream of classy modernist condos at a disproportionate rate - most other cities would have a much higher share of po-mo mediocrity in the mix. Good for Chi-town.

I would guess it's still on. Didn't they claim to sell something like 90% of the units already?

I know there was talk of a new Boom thread since Steely might be retiring for a bit, and I was just going to suggest thinking about making a layout for the U/C, proposed/etc pictures similar to the Philadelphia Boom Rundown, which I think is nice and more convenient for scrolling.

Gotham Chicago

[/QUOTE]

I had no idea there was a street like that left in Chicago, its incredible looking. I hope that this street stays like this, at least we will have some parts of old Chitown left.

That's Garland Court. It runs between The Heritage and the Cultural Center

yikes, no thanks is the vote here. The intro isn't bad but the rundown to me looks messy. I give credit to our forumers because I have always thought that the Chicago rundown looks the best organized and informative at the same time amongst all the rundowns. Maybe I am just use to it but I am happy with it as most other rundowns look either incomplete or a mish-mosh.

^ i agree, the way the philly thread is organized is complicated, and visually a mess. my goal with the chicago list was always to make it as clear and simple as possible. i can't imagine that tom will deviate from that philsophy too greatly.

Technically, it's from Garland Court, looking past E. Wacker Place into Macchesney Court. :-)

I'm not opposed to making changes. . . what's really needed is a steady stream of updates and corrections at the moment. . .

Price points more than anything else. They plan on renting the penthouses at 5,000+ a month. Which is why I don't see the economic justification for not doing underground parking; the Hannover Group wants to build it lease it up and sell it to a REIT, and therefore would not see the return. The redesign, although minor adds a lot. The tower looks even better now and more unified.

Anyway...

Olympic Village has been noticed for Plan Commission, so it will likely be on the agenda...

A proposed amendment to Institutional Planned Development No.18 (PD No.18)
submitted by Arnold L. Randall, Commissioner of the Department of Planning and
Development for the property generally located at 2929 S. Ellis Avenue (Michael Reese
Hospital Campus). The Applicant proposes to amend the boundary and reduce the site
area of PD No.18 and to reclassify the area removed from PD No. 18 to T Transportation
District and B3-5 Community Shopping District. (2nd Ward)

A proposed Residential Business Institutional Planned Development submitted by Arnold
L. Randall, Commissioner of the Department of Planning and Development, for the
property generally located at 2929 S. Ellis Avenue (Michael Reese Hospital Campus.)
The applicant proposes to redevelop the site for mixed use development including up to
7,500 residential units; and if the City of Chicago is selected as the host city for the 2016
Olympic and Paralympic Games, for certain Olympic Village and Olympic and
Paralympic Games-related uses. A building on the site has been rated as potentially
significant in the context of the surrounding community (“Orange”) by the Chicago
Historic Resources Survey. (2nd Ward, 4th Ward)

Chieftain switches focus from Wicklow to Chicago
By Donal Buckley
Wednesday July 09 2008

Limerick firm Chieftain Construction is pressing ahead with plans for a $100m apartment and hotel development in Chicago.

...In Chicago, Chieftain is seeking planning permission for a 200-bedroom hotel and 500 apartments in a mixed development in two tower blocks of 25 storeys each.

To be known as Grand Central, it will be located on the south-western corner of Harrison and Wells and just a few minutes' drive from fellow Irishman Garrett Kelleher's Chicago Spire.

staybridge suites on hold

I can understand how waterview tower could run out of money. But whats happening at staybridge? Didnt they know the cost in advance, and allocate the resourses, does this mean that staybridge suites as a brand is possible in financial trouble, not just this one property.

^^^nice to see what developers have in the "hopper" for when the market finally recovers a bit. I bet this area of the south loop becomes a much greater focus for the next upturn. Specifically from van buren to roosevelt from the river to the expressway. That area's location is just too good to not be redeveloped. It would be nice to have 20+ stories on all those blocks, you know, put some butts on the street. Maybe get rid of that BP on congress.

Also, when they said it was a limerick firm, i though they were in the business of writing witty poems.

While I would prefer a comprehensive site plan for Franklin point similar to the Smith & Gill one, one that utilizes the river location and has a cohesive layout (not to mention what looked like a supertall); maybe developing that land piecemeal will still result in some solid density and some interesting projects. We'll have to see.

I almost completely forgot about this, but the parcel of land bordering the river between Randolph and Washington (across the water from GGP) has had a "Public Notice" sign on an easel for perhaps a couple weeks now. The sign is down at ground level and even I, with my excellent eyesight, cannot read it from the sidewalk.

Has this been discussed and does anyone know about it? If not, perhaps someone with a zoom lens needs to go take a look.

Hi all

I've fallen in love. Don't get me wrong...I've ALWAYS loved Chicago, having grown up in Champaign. And I've ALWAYS loved skyscrapers. However, I've always also loved mansions & such. After seeing listings for 915 Dearborn, 919 Dearborn & 921 Dearborn ( x 11,000,000), I took a virtual stroll around the block, courtesy of Google Maps "street view". These 3 houses are one block west of the Elysian, and share the block with the Scottish Rite church. As I got to the southwest corner of the block (northeast corner of W Delaware Pl & N Dearborn St), I saw a giant sign in front of the house advertising Walton on the Park.

When I look at that block from above, I see 3 magnificent 19th century homes and a big-ass church on the west half, and some parking and a low-rise (sales center) on the east half. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE tell me the houses are not in danger. Any idea what the projected timeline is for construction? The listings are active, but I have no idea how old the street view images are. Elysian shows up as a construction site, but not above ground yet. Is anything happening with Walton?

I read it today. Didn't mention anything about height/density, only that it was an amendment from residential/hotel to office/hotel.
