crappy camera phone pic. and at night. i'll take a high quality photo tomorrow.
thoughts:
that AMLI tower is wow bad. (sorry honte, but after revisiting this building the other, i strongly disagree with you stance on this tower.)
the razing of the 1870's building is meaningless to me. that building is of no architectural significance to me.
hopefully this giant empty lot gets something more architectural significant than what's going up across the street and what went up a block south a few years ago. of course this is only a hope, as i expect the typical south loop crap to grace this lot.
dearborn park needs to GO.
^ OK, well, you should try to explain why you don't like it. I never said it was great, but I consider it one of the better painted concrete towers to have gone up lately (as in, in the top 10-15).

And translucent glass is more pedestrian friendly than metal panels (they were never brick) because.... there are occasional headlights inside?? Because you can pretend they are windows of townhouses? Please explain.

What will make 465 N Park Drive the "Highest end rental apartment building in the history of Chicago"?
I have a hard time buying that
^^^ I believe you are correct, it will not be the highest end tower in Chicago, Chicago Spire will be!
I love the architecture in Streeterville, they have really been on a role recently with getting good projects and providing workable criticisms other than "oh no! not enough parking". Other neighborhoods should follow SOAR's example. This will probably be the most pleasant neighborhood in the downtown area once its all built out.

from the old rendering, it looks like brick.
It is just my opinion, but windowless brick facades give the street level a very sterile, cold, jail-like feel. When I walk past a building like this, its like I am walking down a desolate alley. Glass gives much more life to the street and just plain looks better.
I'll try to explain what I mean in pictures one day.

My friend, I agree with Honte on this one. I have seena hell of a lot worse painted concrete towers in recent years. I think the colors help tp make to tower pop. The omly real problem is the width of the tower. It's width should have been cut in half while its height doubled.
I like the 900/AMLI building. Attractive high-density rental stock. Not as good as some of the concrete classics of the 60s in Near North and along the lake (I know I'm almost alone in this latter opinion ) but I'd agree with it being one of the better painted concrete towers from this boom.

Goddamn this shit sucks..
It's a rough patch given the financing market. But in the scheme of things, most of our ~60 highrises under construction are chugging along. Our only prominent delays/stoppages are Waterview and now Staybridge.
As days go for going on a photo expedition, yesterday was pretty atrocious. Hazy, hot, humid, thunderstorms, bad shoes, hungry, and the frappuccino machine was broken at the Dominick's Starbucks. Excuses aside, here's my first big shoot for over a year now.

I love this view down McClurg! Too bad rarely anyone has an excuse to walk to the dead end of Upper Wacker.

Well that'll be the view of everyone living on the N side of Arquetectonica. Nice tour. The proposals may have slowed down, but there's a lot going on.
^Wow, awesome update (including the photos in the other threads).
Second that - quite extensive.

Pherek, that phenomenal and comprehensive photo update was just the antedote to the very malaise I had been feeling about development in Chicago lately. You totally rule
