i hate to wreck this great thread with a less-than-crazy post....

but when i was living in africa, TIME magazine had a cover story about the three most important cities in the world, NYC, London, and Hong Kong.

pretty interesting actually and it was decent at explaining why the world at large (especially the financial world) could not function without them as they are. here's the link.

this is true, those are the top four and after that it would be Chicago, Frankfurt, Hong Kong, LA, Milan, Singapore that round out the 'Alpha' cities

Thanx guys for making this one of the most entertaining threads that I have ever read....and I have followed this forum closely for 5 years.

And for the record, I would prefer if San Antonio and Austin remain separate (save a commuter rail connection). They are two very different Texas gems that need to be admired individually.

Milan? HA, for fashion? Fiat? while it is the hub of Italian business it is not exactly a top 10 IMO. Where is Mumbai? Sydney? Sao Paulo? Los Angeles?

Mumbai is close but not Alpha, Beta, or Gamma world cities. Sydney and Sao Paulo are 'Beta' cities. i mentioned LA already in my previous post

Oh you are just reposting GaWC data. You should have said so. GaWC data has been here for years and debated ad nauseum.

GaWC is just one measure. There are other that say differently, myself included-mainly after living in and doing business in most of the cities on those lists. Milan doesn't even have an major airline hub anymore it's not as "Alpha" as you are GaWC think IMO.

I missed the LA, my mistake there.
