That's not a bad idea. We should all set up some kind of meet. I do sometimes wounder what some of you guys are like in person. I've met two people on here so far....Urbanboy and Wasatch_one. That was fun to meet those two.

I like the design of it. Wish it was a little bit taller, but having a 6-story Hyatt next to the gateway will add alot to the area I think.
Also I did drive by that site today. Crews have already dug out the hole for the hotel. I'm surprise to see just how fast these guys are moving along with this project. Not long now till we start seeing I bet wooden frames take shape.

That Hyatt posted above looks similar to the rendering we have of our hyatt at gateway. ... Personally I am very excited for the hyatt at gateway, but I am getting bored of that color scheme throughout gateway. ... We should make it a community effort and raid the Gateway with paint brushes to add some diversity to it.

...Residents felt excluded from the public process when Kmart was built at the site about 40 years ago, Brown said, and many believe they haven't had a voice in Wal-Mart's plans to raze the Kmart structure and build a new supercenter in its place.

...The Sugar House, East Bench, Greater Avenues, Bonneville Hills, Wasatch Hollow, Sunnyside East and Yalecrest community councils have passed motions or resolutions opposing the rezone because it is not supported by the East Bench master plan. They also contend that the big-box store would increase traffic and harm local businesses.

...Troy Herold, vice president of Wal-Mart developer CLC Associates Inc., touted the merits of building a new store at the site, saying it would allow for more landscaping, more attractive parking and outdoor lighting.
It also would contain environmentally sustainable features "that are not feasible in a remodel of a 40-year-old building," Herold said.

Soren Simonsen, an architect and council member, disputed that claim, saying that old buildings can be remodeled to meet most green-building standards.

"Demolishing and rebuilding by its very nature is not a sustainable practice," Simonsen said.

The problem, Herold said, is that renovation is more expensive, and the Parleys Way project has a budget. A remodel wouldn't allow for the quality of design and extent of landscaping planned for a new store, he said.

Sorry if I come off as a pesimist, but if you look closely at the....my brain turned off...rendering, you will see that the Hyatt will look a lot like the other buildings at the Gateway.

It looks kinda ugly and short. It basically looks like the Gateway Mall. I hope the real thing will look much better than this does. At least it will fit right in

Ha, I run my mouth at times, It's just my stubborn Dutch blood I supose.

I actually do like your commentary but I'm usually the guy that will stand up for the underdog whatever the situation (I have a short temper with ignorant comments, and ironically enough, usually fight ignorance with an ignorant comment of my own )...

I think a forum meet would be good because you then actually know the people behind the screen name and it allows more of a level of respect instead of just what we see here on the forum...

Well I would preferrably like to settle somewhere in SL County, second along the Wasatch Front, or third somewhere in the state. I've got an interview tonight on the phone and some additional applications out and feelers out. Either way i'll be back in Utah sometime in August.

Fortunately for me I already own a home in the LP (liberty park area). Hopefully I'll be able to move back into it soon.

As usual, thanks T-Mac. That 700 S 200 W area is really becoming a cool neighborhood with some very colorful and modern designed condos and apartments. I think it's great!

Where are these being built? Seriously, aside from the first shots it looks like a really dead area.

Just my opinion, but the color concept is going to look really bad a few years down the road. The buildings look almost temporary.

Again, this is just my personal opinion as I am sure that many like it

While I personally would have "maybe" made a few minor adjustments in the color key of the aluminum framing around the windows, I would disagree that they are temporary looking in nature or that the color concept will lose its appeal in a few years. If they were beige or something of that ilk applied on that specific structure, then I could see the problem. Of course, just my own opinion.

I really like the looks of the Kirtland Condos, but I really hate Angelina's Corner. That building sticks out like a sore thumb. But, it's still an improvement.

Now we just have to get people to buy all these new condos going up!
