Curious as to what you've heard about Rose Street? I too heard discussion, but that was at least a year ago.
No idea on tower design or if the deal for land is in fact finalized but I do know paper has been exchanged on Hamilton Street south of FCC tower.

Need to do some more digging on Rose Street. Information is not reliable enough yet. A few years back someone mentioned a condo development was being planned but that obviously hasn't happened so I need to ask around again.

I recall reading that a seniors complex was planned for Rose.

Right. At one point I had heard about a seniors complex on Rose.

Farewell Bob, you blathering idiot!

Looks like Bob Hughes resigned, after being caught plagiarizing an article.

Fans of journalism written above the third grade level can rejoice now. I am just glad he left before daylight savings time was ever implemented.

I hope no seniors complex. We need more younger people downtown before we start building more spaces for seniors.

I have heard that the second FCC tower is not going ahead soon. The pedway will proceed. May be the last one in downtown. The City is discouraging them for obvious reasons. FCC will use space in the Conexus Plaza for now.

I don't believe they need any more land for the second tower anyway.

Does anyone know what is going up immediately north of the Coop Gas bar that is currently under construction on north Albert St?

And Stormer, I guess we'll have to see which of our 'sources' is correct as mine told me yesterday that a second FCC tower is imminent.

Well that's encouraging. The last thing we need is a +15 system like Calgary whereby people are being taken off the streets.

Props on the scoop about the pedway.

I don't understand why they would discourage pedways. Sure they want to promote sidewalk friendly retail development for pedestrians, but anytime i've been in downtown Regina during office hours in the fall, spring and winter i've never seen a lack of people on the sidewalks.

I heard, shortly after Harvard bought Conexus Plaza, that there was a possibility of also linking Conexus Plaza to the GOC Building across 12th Ave. Also, TD Tower to Canada Life over the alley.

You say the City is discouraging them, but yet in the Canada.com come link, Mayor Pat says it's all part of the 'plan' -

I personally doubt it will be the last one to be constructed.

I am just assuming the City will be adopting the Office for Urbanism recommendations about pedways. Plus I heard Harvard argued there new pedway was grandfathered as it had been in the works for a long time. I am personally torn on them. They can take away from the street but I have lived through many Regina winters. Sometimes they just make sense. If you have offices in two buildings you don't want to put all you gear on and wheel your file boxes through the snow for a meeting.

Generally the Regina pedways are empty in the summer anyhow, and, really who cares about street life when it is -30.

All of the businesses that are trying to make ends meet all winter. Without people, there is nothing.

Precisely.

There are ways to satisfy human comfort while maintaining street life. Think of F.W. Hill mall on the east side.

I agree with crooked rain on this...

I don't see how pedways are going to have an affect in winter... (In reference to a really cold day) If I am forced to walk outside between buildings, I'm not going to leisurely stroll by and look in the windows of the stores... I'm gonna be walking as fast as I can in order to get to my final destination as quick as possible...

If it's nicer out, the walkways won't have an impact as I would prefer to walk outside. (and most people are the same way in that regard)

Rumour has it that HBC is building a Fields department store in White City. there is a building going up right beside the Ice House strip mall, so I assume that willl be the location.

They have been looking for site in Regina for some time but are finding the rents too high for their discount/general store format. Might be a logical place for them.
