Looks like the Rumley is finally starting to get some new windows on the top floors. Not much else is happening. I wonder if they plan do do much with the exterior.

i hope they leave it as is it is near perfect condition and ths windows look great, i am still wondering how the glass wall is going to look

I think you are right. The brick exterior just needs a good presure wash to take all that dirt off.

In my never ending pursuit of a potential downtown condo, I recently attended an open house at the Eaton T Lofts (avenue D). Started chatting to the real estate agent there about condo developments in general. She indicated that the tower planned for beside the police station (Lighthouse Housing project) may end up being around a 30 story tower! She said the Lighthouse portion of the project would be incorporated into a much taller and upscale condo project.

This is the first I have heard that the original plans for a 10-14 story building has changed. Anyone else have any info on this? If it is true, that would be great to see more housing being planned for downtown!

For those that may be concerned about combing subsidized housing with upper end housing, I saw an excellent news story on Global(??) about a month ago featuring something very similar in Victoria to deal with the homeless. Apparently a very successful and progressive project.

I'm not at all concerned about mixed income housing. Ghettoizing the marginalized rarely if ever produces positive results. I'd like to hear more about this potential project.

I wish I knew more Circle33, but she was pretty vague about it all. Only said she knew someone who would know about it and that a 30+ towere was now the plan.

Have to admit though, this sounds a bit like "I heard from a friend who heard from a friend...."

Wow that would be fantastic if they did something like that! Hopefully it's more then gossip floating around.

I'll throw in my similar good feeling about this gossip. I'd heard a month or two ago that the lighthouse project was hoping to include market condos and that everyone involved was really pushing for this to occur. I hadn't heard anything about the height, but considering it was originally to be 14-16 floors, it would have to be 25+ if private condos are included.

I also want to throw my support behind the mixing of social housing and private housing, I think it's a great way to eliminate some stigma attached to social assistance and will hopefully contribute to re-integrating some of those people into regular society.

hmm sounds interesting, mabey our downtown will start getting a pretty new look by 2010ish all we need now is cameco to build another 30 story building and we will have a great skyline per population

Not sure who the developer is, but our municipal and provincial governments each pledged some money towards the original plan.

That area is going to have an entirely different vibe to it (Vecima moving into the post office/Lighthouse Tower/Library expansion/PoliceHQmoving/KingGeorge and 2nd Ave. Lofts/Bus mall redevelopment).

It would be a great idea if the public library could somehow expand into the sturdy stone mall. It would work with some creative thinking. There is a lot of room there.

i hope they buldoze it and start over, they can take a few pointers from reginas future library, take a look if you never saw it. if not they can build up, move to johndeere warehouse or they can build over the street possibly?

Cameco Q1 profit surges 125 per cent to $133M on higher prices, volumes

SASKATOON — Cameco Corp. (TSX:CCO) has reported first-quarter earnings of $133 million, up by 125 per cent from a year ago as revenue increased 45 per cent to $593 million on higher prices for uranium and gold and an increase in uranium volumes.

Cameco said Tuesday that its net income of 37 cents per share compared with $59 million or 17 cents per share in the year-earlier period, when revenue was $409 million.

Jerry Grandey, Cameco's president and CEO, stated that the company's future "is secured by the long-term demand for clean energy around the world."

However, Tuesday's earnings release coincided with an analyst report pointing to cracks in the so-called nuclear renaissance.

Desjardins Securities analysts John Redstone and John Hughes predict the uranium price will stabilize in the US$60-a-pound range, after falling sharply from a recent spot peak of nearly $140.

They observe that it is increasingly difficult to finance new nuclear plants and there is a lack of qualified personnel to build and operate them.

Additionally, they write, even if a large number of reactors start up after 2015, "there also is an excess of 80,000 metric tons per year of planned and prospective new uranium mines that could onstream between 2015 and 2025."

At Cameco, the average realized price in the first quarter was US$40.85 a pound, up from $24.00 a year earlier. Sales volume increased to 7.4 million pounds from 6.3 million, but production fell to 3.7 million pounds from 4.5 million.

Cameco noted that its realized prices "lag the market and continued to rise in the quarter despite lower market prices.

I have been reading some threads about rumours of where Cameco might end up ... well I think I have some information. I have it on good authority that Cameco has leased the entire "North 48" complex on the corner of 48th and Miller.

The "L-Shape" of the building will have all of the doors taken off and replaced with plate glass glazing, and the ONLY way in to the building will be at the "Tower" in the corner where security guards / reception will grant entrance to those who are approved guests. Also as a side note, the stand alone building on the corner of the lot is supposedly leased to "Saskatchewan's Largest Commercial Realtor" ICR.

I hope that I am not breaking any trust or confidentiality here, but it just looked like something that people might be interested in.

Well that really sucks if it's true. Cameco is a big company that should be downtown. That's a bummer.
