So if you include the hotel and all the Port Alberta buildings/infrastructure... YEG is gonna look so much bigger and different. Exciting indeed!

We still don't even have a rendering of the hotel!

Of course, I know that it's a separate project from the airport, but...

yup....it will finally look and feel like a big city airport. Hotel will do wonders for this and the Air Links business park will make it feel more like YVR entering.

We do need a few more larger hangers though to compliment this airside.

Are they staged along or near the QE2?? Aren't they supposed to start repaving that section of highway soon? Might be related to that.

^ Nope, from what I've seen it's set about... 400 meters (guestimate) or so west of QE2.. looks like serious land work.

Could be QE2? Seems to far back though..

It could be utility upgrades / alignments. Are they stripping a large swath of land or a smaller linear section?

I believe that the heavy work you are refering to west to the QE2 is initial prep for the expanded apron to the east of the existing terminal.

With the QE2 being re-aligned (according to Alberta Transportation studies), does anyone think putting up lights along the existing alignment is a waste of money?

BTW, nice "official" announcement by YEG!

Here's the juicy details of a Functional Planning Study, courtesy Alberta Transportation and TransTech Engineering. From the June '07 open house:

Not really. The only section that will be immediately affected is within the COE limits (area bet'n Ellerslie to 41 Ave SW). The remainder is long term (>20 years).

I see no problem with the lighting. Likely the older section of QE2 will remain and serve East Nisku area anyway. That would be good thing as it would create a truck access route into the industrial area.

I doubt that the realignment would happen anytime soon

I guess. The real re-alignment comes once the province builds an outer - outer ring road, as that interchange would have to be a ways west of the current QE2 alignment due to development and access requirements for that directly east of the QE2 (need some spacing away from a systems interchange.

I'll love the day when the QE2 gets filled in with a C/D system. That'll sure give Edmonton a real "big city" feel when you're approaching it from the south.
