Anyone know if AC Edm-Heathrow flight is using XM upgraded planes on a regular basis now??

Well if you try to book via AC's website within the next couple of weeks, then no, the 763 is not XM'd. There's a red star next to the aircraft type to indicate the "better" type of aircraft with regard to seat back TV's etc. Of course, the 763 from YYC to LHR is XM'd. Surprise surprise.

^^ How far ahead are you looking? The YYC 767 LHR flight hasn't started yet. The FRA flight has. YYC-LHR is A330 with no XM. About 90% of the 767-300's have been XM'd. I'm really surprised that every YEG-LHR just happens to be on a non-XM'd 767. Unless they've downgraded to 767-200?

Yes I was quite surprised too....I had noticed on the website that it wasnt listed as such, I was really hoping that it was a mistake : /

Might have to pack soem tranqs to make it through that one

The aircraft that flew the route today (April 26/08) was XM'd.

Maybe the website just isnt quite up to date...? Im on that flight tommorow.

I flew the ol AC vintage 767 to Shanghai...13 hours of that and I swore never again....

Your flight will be operated by Fin # 637 which has been XM'd

It's nearly sold out though, so you'll probably have a seat mate.

For that mater about any visiting aircraft...I'm an Expat aviation enthusiast that's been living in Edmonton for a couple of years now, but have yet to find any similar people around here..found a number down 'souff' at Calagry. SO any advance warning would be most appreciated

Did a check...out of 46 747-SP's produced, only 14 are currently left in service, of which all bar one are based in the Middle East..5 in airline service, the rest in government hands...the one exception being P4-FSH owned by Ernest Angley Ministries ..so if that doesn't prove that these 'ministries' are just money grabbers I don't know what will

As for cost..well as most are VIP..and these aircraft are OLD, I suspect the interiors are worth far more than the airframes themselves.

Anyone ever have problems with UA? Specifically lost baggage? Was on a trip recently for business, connected in ORD, and approx. 12 passengers didnt get their bags.....but approx. 12 bags were unspoken for. Myself and a colleague were among those without bags. Got them back no problem, but it took 3 days. On the way home, connected in ORD again, and again the same thing happened. This time approx. 6 bags didnt show, and approx. 6 bags went unclaimed. Again, one of the guys we were travelling with didnt get his bag. That made 3 guys, 3 lost bags. We had ample connection time in ORD (more than an hour both ways), so Im a little frustrated with the service. I know its not just UA that misplaces bags, or they dont make the connection, but this seems to happen to at least one of our guys in the office when we fly United. Luckily we have always gotten them back, but I just thought I would see if anyone else has had similar experiences.

Yep all the time, usually because of Weight and Balance issues with their small Skywest plans. Were you on a CRJ700 by chance?

Yup. I try and avoid connecting flights through ORD as UA seems to like to lose my bagage. Dam CRJs! Last time it took two days to get it back and my bag had oil all over it when it was returned!?!

^Brutal. Yeah it seems like ORD has been the worst culprit. Seems to be the only airport that I ever have bag issues at....

Can you explain the weight and balance issue. I'm really unsure how this works. A plane can carry x amount of passengers and x weight of cargo. The airline calculates what the maximum weight of each passengers luggage can be based on that don't they? It seems really awkward that people have to look at which aircraft they will fly on to make sure their bags get to their destination with them.

Not that United ever has great prices to Europe via ORD (unleast from my research, NW and AC easily beat them) but this becomes a factor if you're connecting to some far off place and you have to worry about your bags not making it.

^Thats true. Luckily, our connections have been to places on the East Coast, so getting our bags within 24 hours is never usually a problem.

A plane can carry X mount of pax, fuel and cargo a distance of X. However if a route is at the far limits of a plane's reach, sometimes they need to have payload restrictions due to headwinds or what have you.

It's also not uncommon for airlines to run a route with a constant payload restriction because the route rarely has a 90%-100% load factor (or whatever load factor that would require payload restrictions) so on the days they do go over that load factor, bags are bumped.

This saves the airline money, running a CRJ-700 on a route like that is still cheaper than running a 319 with 35 empty seats even if they have to give compensation vouchers for delayed baggage.

The only true way to avoid your bag being bumped as little as possible is to travel on a business class ticket.
