I'm going to agree with Country on this, I just wanted to see what everyone thought and I do think that would have caused a bit of tension at his banquet if he said Saskatoon is expecting some big changes. I've read elsewhere that since Regina is a capital it is oriented mainly towards government developmoent and generally doesnt have spontaneous economical developments b/c of this. I think that if a company was looking to place a head office in Saskatchewan it would most likely choose Saskatoon b/c we have a more developed economy, larger population and cultural output as well the city has higher standards of living and international appeal then Regina.

Other than the larger population (which is irrelevent btw), that bolded comment ranks right up there with the most ridiculous things I've ever read on these forums. BOTH Regina and Saskatoon have alot to offer any company willing to set up in this province and saying one is better than the other is nothing more than ignorance and homerism.

Migs, I was just waiting for you to weigh in after that comment!
It's nothing against you at all but I could've bet money that you would be the first to respond to kgc's comment lol.

kgc087, I love Saskatoon too and am always eager to sing its praises, but we're not THAT special.

Wall Wants Corporate Head Offices In Sask
By Benson McCulloch
Updated April 23, 2008 - 7:50am

As Saskatchewan continues to place itself as the new "it" province in Canada, Premier Brad Wall is looking to strike on this hot economy and prepare for the future.

The Premier's plan is to develop a head office strategy and change the business and office landscape of the province by enticing corporate head offices to locate right here in Saskatchewan.

Wall told a premier's dinner last night in Regina of his plans and says with Saskatchewan's booming economy, companies should have a bigger presence in the province.

Wall hints that the government is talking to companies but wouldn't say which ones they are trying to woo.

I'm not sure why there would be cause for concern even if the plans were to draw HO's to Regina. What does that have to do with Saskatoon? Why would this be concerning aside from a bruise on civic pride?

no a4 regina no development for you, in fact you never heard out secret plan about forcing everyone to move to saskatoon and making regina the worlds largest ghost town. you should see it in the newspaper sometime this week

but anywho we can argue forever and ever and never make a conclusion or we can say none of us are internationally known yet and we are equal in our own ways. as for compaines i hope we both get some new ones and both get a couple newskyscrapers to start in the upcomming year

i believe regina and saskatoon is like apples and oranges. noone truely has a favorit but they both taste good

The topic has been broached before, but what are the chances of PotashCorp getting some new digs? The buzz is all about Cameco, but PCS is a poster child for good times in our province right now. Their current 11 storey HQ, while being one of the nicest towers in S'toon (such a small pond to fish from) it's still only a modest office tower at best. Isn't it reasonable to assume that they might be looking at possibilities for a fancier home, something to better show off their wealth?

I wonder if they're getting cramped in there? Correct me if I'm wrong but they do occupy that entire tower don't they? Do they have employees in other locations across downtown and the city or just that one spot?

Country's 2015 vision: New downtown HQs for Cameco and PCS, all curvy and glass clad, and only about...say...30 floors each? Condos on the upper floors of course, retail on the ground floor. Yea, why not? This sounds ambitious, we'd better get to work!

I don't see why they didn't just make one tower, instead of the existing twin towers. not only would the buildings affect on the skyline be much more significant, but if they had built the tower on first Ave, then the would have never torn down the capitol! I can't see them expanding any time soon. although, this may be my imagination...but i think i heard that those buildings were built so they could be expanded upword?

PotashCorp has a corporate base in Saskatoon, SK and Northbrook, IL (a suburb of Chicago).

They don't directly employ very many people (office workers). I believe a good deal of their planning, design, possibly legal work as well is contracted out to other firms (IIRC, the Star Phoenix reported that the engineering firm AMEC recently signed a lease at Innovation Place for office space at recently completed building at 121 Research Drive (100 employees?). Apparently AMEC does work for PCS).

Our sales and transportation and distribution functions were handled by 182 employees in Northbrook, Illinois and various other locations in the United States and Brazil and 20 employees in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Excluding sales personnel, the Saskatoon and Northbrook offices had a staff of 270.

You must be thinking of our Renaissance Condos/Radisson Hotel twin towers. We're talking about another set of twin towers with regards to PotashCorp, the Princeton Towers (one of them is pictured in SASKFTW's post above).

But you're right, except for the height difference, Saskatoon's Renaissance and Regina's Delta Hotel are more or less the same building.
