Yet the Meridian website says it will be "...a little piece of Manhattan in Saskatoon". Talk about a geographic identity crisis.

All kidding aside, I have no doubt that when finished it will contribute positively to the aesthetic of our downtown. Meridian does good work.

i wouldnt have thought it would be that likely to convert to office space either, but that is exactly what is happeneing. the theatre has been bought by a developer from regina who is planning to convert to office space. on a per sq ft basis it works out to approx 63 bucks. ALOT of money for something that is gonna require a top to bottom redo. however, the building, because of its height can be broken up into 4 floors. thats right at 9 feet per floor it can work. i guess the escalator is old and not in great shape and at 4 floors the existing elevator would only reach the 3rd floor of potentially 4. there was no word from the listing agent that this was the plan, but it would make some sense especially with the gutting that is gonna have to happen anyway. yayy more office space!

Brutal, another 4 story office building. If these would be combined + the R.L. project, we could be up to a single 13 story building!

The capital 4 building has a unique character to it and will be a great conversion for the d/t area. We have to remember every bit of office space helps, it boosts the economy attracting larger firms which will hopefully construct larger buildings. Hopefully with the proposed office buildings later this summer our skyline will gain some height but until then this is will be a great addition to the city!

Reading the Regina thread, they posted an article of Wall saying he is expecting head offices to head it to Regina (rather than Saskatoon), what does everyone think about that?

What Brad Wall thinks is not that important. He is just a waste of space if you ask me. Not sure why people voted for him anyway.
Is he saying that Cameco, PCS, and Areva might move to Regina? Or new companies moving would go there instead of Saskatoon?

Wall said he wanted to attract head offices to Saskatchewan. No where in anything I read did I see a preference to Regina.

Yah but it's not up to the premier to say where the head offices go! It's up to the people who own the companies. Saskatoon is also a larger center, so for head offices to land there makes much more sense then Regina.

Well, I think the premier saying something like that is a bit of a concern. If he had of left it at "attracting to Saskatchewan", that would be fine. But to specifically single out the 'capital city' worries me. Are there plans to bolster up the 'capital' by making it more attractive (through policy or lobbying by the provincial government to outside potential corporations??) Maybe Brad has a 'hate on' for Saskatoon right now, because of the community response to Station 20, also the civic government here has been pretty vocal that the government is not giving enough to municipalities.

I hope that Saskatoon's strong 'independent/private' economic engine will be enough to attract any potential corporate head office. Usually business does not want to get in bed with government.

I pretty sure he specifically mentioned Regina only because that is where he was speaking. It would probably do little to fire up a Regina crowd by telling them Saskatoon is in for some big changes (and visa versa).

I agree with circle. I don't think there's any cause for concern here.
