Yes, it is a nice skyline, but keeping to the spirit of this thread, Yellowknife does not have a CMA. Many cities without CMAs in Canada seem to have skylines comparable to some of the smaller CMAs. Brandon is on example.

Well, I'm not going to get all offended and try to defend it. It is what it is.

I will say, however, that the picture the OP posted is not actually the 'skyline'. It's a nice picture and a good view of the city lights, but it's actually looking west into the suburbs from the very edge of downtown. The park you see in the foreground is actually Victoria Park.

Here's a much better shot, in this thread of SSC. Unfortunately, I'm not registered under SSC, so I can't retrieve the photo. But if you scroll down, you'll see a nighttime skyline shot of Kitchener from the eastern suburbs. Granted, not all of those buildings are actually downtown. Much like in the GTA, Kitchener has random apartment buildings scattered all over the urban fabric.

I agree about highrises/skyscrapers. Skylines can be interesting but they're not worth sacrificing anything else for. I'd rather live in an interesting town than one with tall buildings and no street life, and those definitely exist.

And yes, Ottawa sort of got the worse of both worlds. Halifax also has botched height restrictions that have resulted in a few weird buildings, a tabletop look, and weird "gaps" in the downtown.

Quebec City is one example of a place that has gone relatively well with its development restrictions. It feels very well-proportioned and well-suited to the terrain. Vancouver is similar.

No they don't. I don't think whitehorse has a single building over 4-5 floors.

It has a "wooden skyscraper". height of 4 floors.

For a city with a population over 400k it has a pretty weak skyline at the moment but there are quite a few ~100m+ towers u/c and approved/proposed in Surrey's newly designated 'downtown'...
