I don't know Projects, that's kind of spooky. I've been having a lot of strange gut feelings lately, that we're going to be getting an MLB team in the fairly near future,say the next 5 to 7 years. Also, for some reason I've run into several people lately who have talked fairly openly about a strong rumor mill circulating, about an MLB team for the area. I hope you're Bluffdale dream isn't prophetic, as far as a location goes.

I think a tower in the 40-50 range could look just fine in our skyline, depending on the design. I think the reason why aesthetically the Wells Fargo wouldn't look good at that hight is because of the width of the building, whereas a more slender building might work.

yeah, count me in on a heart attack for that one too. And I agree with Comrade about a gradual progression in the height of our skyline. A city really doesn't have to have a lot of height in order to be a dense, attractive, lively city (Vancouver comes to mind). However, if it was placed just right a 600-700 ft building could look pretty good in our skyline, giving it a central point of focus tapering off to every side, ala Urbanboy's sketch on that newspaper photo.

See, I'm still not feeling it. While I would definitely not hate the idea of a 50-story tower being built, I'm not entirely bummed we're only getting 20-30 story buildings right now.

As SLCforme said, it's more important to build density than it is height at this stage. Add in a few 30-35 story towers and it contrasts well with that glass tower.

To me, it ruins the skyline even more. Now if all the other towers were in the 25-35 range, it wouldn't look too bad. However, to have the tallest 20+ stories taller than the 2nd tallest? Not good (unless we're talking a skyline with towers in their 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s and 80-stories -- than a 100 story tower wouldn't look too out of place).

I was going to argue with you but I changed my mind in mid post.
However i still don't think a 50story building would be too much of a jump, I think it might encourage other taller buildings.

I would like a skyline where when first seen focuses your eyes to the 25-30 story buildings, then in the back ground you would have your 500-700ft towers and then one or two 700+ foot buildings in the distance. I don't know if I'm explaining this very well?

Something like the Seattle Skyline RC14. I've always admired the Seattle skyline for the it's variety of building heights. The different heights makes a striking visual prensentation.

This is really interesting and somewhat exciting to me. It would seem that 300 West is turning into downtown's new chic address. I hadn't expected the transformation to happen so quickly.

Like I said, I wouldn't be opposed -- or even pissed -- to the idea of a 50-story building. However, I think it's more important Salt Lake get more density downtown and more variety in heights before the city builds a tower of that size.

Here's Hearst Tower in Charlotte added to the Salt Lake skyline (46 stories).



It doesn't look horrible, but the building does look out of place. In fact, it actually makes the other buildings look smaller than they really are. It kind of reminds me of Omaha's skyline, though obviously, on a whole, SLC has taller buildings.



I just think the skyline would look better if we had a few 500 foot towers and then moved up into a couple 600 foot towers. But to have one 650 foot tower among 420 or less? It sets the balance off worse than what we have already.

We're doin' good. There is a tallest, but it doesn't look out of place and the skyline actually balances out very well.

I like it. I agree that Salt Lake needs more density, eventually getting taller and taller as we move on. I mean, as of now, I don't think we're ready for a 45 story building. I think the density should come first. That would be my number one priority when it comes to the skyline of Salt Lake. It might take a while before we get a definable new tallest, but sometimes we have to be patient, we can't always get everything we want when we want it, although I wish that was the case.

Delts, I agree taht this could become a new chic address. However, the Marmalade seems dormant. There has been no activity at the site for a few months now. I would say since November. They have cleared the lot and dumped some gravel. I e-mailed them as to the hold-up but have yet to receive a response and that was a week ago.
