The thing is Salt Lake has too many towers in the 20-28 story range, therefor looking at the skyline most of our tallest buildings all look to bef near the same height. For example... If you guys look at the north end of the skyline most of the buildings are close to the same. Zions Bank Tower, Eaglegate Plaza, Gateway West Tower, old Key Bank Tower, and new Key Bank Tower all are about the same shape, size, and height. Even on the South end we have the One Utah Center and the Wells Fargo Tower that are not the same shape, but close to the same height still. Even the 222 South Main will be near the same height as the One Utah Center. For the last 25 years or so it seems Salt Lake City can't break the 30-story limit. Try and try again through out the years different developers would proposed something over 30-stories ( Eaglegate tower, One Utah Tower ) but in the end they just ended up building another 20-story building. Then there were the towers that NEVER got built such as the proposed Social Hall Tower back in 2002 that would of been 33-stories or a 50-story Trade Center Tower that was proposed back in the 80's.
Even 222 south Main and all the towers at City Creek Center won't break the skyline limit. Sure Tower one at CCC will be 32-stories. But since it's a condo tower it won't be any taller then the new key bank tower.
Just as Comrade was saying the next step is, we need a 30-35 story tower. That's why I have high hopes for the "Glass Tower" and the Cowboy Partner 40-story Tower" With those two towers and maybe the WTCU Towers then our skyline will finally grow upwards a little bit.
