I don't believe Ottawa's is separated either. I actually prefer having it mixed. It's nice to meet up with family/friends before the baggage comes out and be able to chat while waiting. Who wants to stand there for up to an hour waiting by themselves?

Toronto Terminal #1 domestic baggage claim is seperated, however it is not secure or restricted from the general population. On the arrivals level you can simply walk through the sliding doors or go to level 2 walk towards security and take the elevator down into the baggage claim...all on the non-secure side.

^yup. but there is a significant amount more room between the baggage claim and the outer wall. @YEG if passengers are waiting for their lugguge, there is no room, or very little room, for public movement.

The barrier you speak of is less of a physical barrier than the rope line in Montreal.

From the map below you can see that the likely intended use of the barrier was to denote circulation areas from the 'milling about' areas. In the small pictures you can see the barrier, and you can see openings in the barrier that allow unencumbered travel in both directions.

In the last month I've been through DFW PHX and DCA and they all have public baggage claims.

I personally don't see it as a big deal. Most people get there long before the luggage arrives. . .

Well, whatever. I think nobody can argue that the baggage claims area at YEG is not a) pretty crappy looking; and b) pretty tight in terms of space.

Mexicana flights for YEG are now loaded.

Round-trip from YEG-MEX is going for $563 plus taxes, good luck getting much in early June as they are sold out for a while.

Flights will operate on the following;

MEX-YEG. MON,WED,FRI. A/C A319

YEG-MEX. TUE,THU,SAT. A/C A319

oh yes - there is always the Air Canada milk run...
Love those cheap charter flights...however the additional taxes of approx. $300 is way more than the taxes on the scheduled service because the "taxes" on the charter flights include the hidden fule surcharges and the commissions to the travel agent and who knows what else. After you take that all into consideration, the price for Mexico city on a scheduled service with the ability to go when you want and be flexible versus the fixed one or two week time frames on the charter routes is still not bad.

Dave, I agree with your comments - and there are always pros and cons. That said - with the charter flights I mentioned next week - there is no cheaper or faster way to get to Vallarta (assuming that date works).

FYI have flown from Mex City on both AeroMexico and Mexicana to Vallarta and Cancun etc. Mex City Airport terminal for domestic connections is OK (just OK) and there are lots of flights. If you look at web fares (super savers) on Mexicana you can often get great domestic fares booking ahead.

Also just found a fare from YEG-CUN (Cancun) with MX with a quick plane change in Mexico city for $583 plus taxes.Compared to Air Transat,Sunwing,Skyservice its about $300 cheaper for air only.This will force fares down on all-inclusives for next season I am sure...
