Same here. I don't even notice it anymore when I go to the airport. Guess that means I wouldn't miss it if it were to go....

they will need to build the new one first - which i think will be part of the 1 billion dollar expansion. So after its built, the new one will come down. Thats why i say 6 years - maybe longer

Few people saying oh look at what AC is doing in YYC again...

Its one of AC's hubs, so it makes sense for them.

Blue collar market? Give your head a shake, buisness class passangers from YEG are just as strong.We arent a AC hub so this is why this happens.Nothing to do with the color of your collar...

Think outside the box, we are still working hard and have other carriers who are strongly interested in us.I beleive we will produce some unique things in the next year and in 2009 also...

I wouldn't consider Calgary to be a real hub for Air Canada. Maybe for some trans-border, but Calgary (and Montreal) are only secondary hubs for Air Canada and I doubt if they will ever be any more than that. I work at YYC and everybody there knows it, the higher-up's make it quite clear that Vancouver and Toronto are the only real hubs (and Montreal to a certain extent). The thing that bugs me about that is that we have bilateral agreements that keep new airlines like Emirates out of the Alberta market, yet we all know AC will never fly the route because Alberta is not a true "hub" for them. I think it's ridiculous

Too bad someone could not come up with an alternative use for the tower after it gets decommissioned.

Location wise would it not be a bad restaurant, lounge and flight observation deck if they could somehow provide easy public access...make it a tourist draw...

I am for demolition of the tower - and any other buildings that detract from our efforts to create a modern and vibrant YEG. One black tooth in a row of pearly whites stands out.

On principle I shall have to oppose the demolition of still useful buildings. I deprecate our practice of knocking over every structure every thirty or forty years. This merely advertises us as a transient society that can safely be disregarded since we may well disappear once our current residents tire of the place.

As an example, in my lifetime this town has had three city halls; each knocked down as soon as we decided we wanted something more modern. I notice that the corresponding structure in Venice dates from the fourteenth century. Are we to imply that by letting old buildings stand we are condemning ourselves to being reduced to the status of Venice?

3 city halls. #1 OK. #2 FUUUUUUGLY. #3 Not done yet but LIGHT YEARS ahead of #2. So, HOORAY FOR THE WREAKING BALL!

...and comparing this "not built to last forever" blue glass boring rectangle office complex to an ancient and better looking building is like comparing a Bugatti to a Chevette. Sure, they're both cars, but NOT.

Sure, like the Devonian, you could "reuse" the structure, but to integrate it into the flowing and 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000.12% better looking, flowing, and clean terminal would mean that the '60's look and feel is buh-bye!
