Well if everything goes good Stinson will pay $9.5 million within 30 days (that's the first test of credibility IMO), start construction by June, have 18 months of construction and renovation and have one gaint kick ass Christmas Party in 2009. Then in 2010 depending on Stinson himself he'll have to work on the condo tower.

holy crap...isn't that a little tall?? 700-800 feet would be almost double the height of Landmark Place. This looks to be more than double....but dang, it looks sweet!!!

As Sapphire is proposed right now it will be literally doubled the height of Landmark Place. This would be like Hamilton's version of a liveable CN Tower. Be cool if the globe part was an observation deck.

Landmark is 417ft.

I love the part about Frisina appealing to the city to break the height limit to save money by building up instead of out. Man, he was way ahead of his time.
He got them to waive the 6-storey height limit and built an 18 storey tower. 3 times the height of what was previously allowed.
Currently the height limit at Connaught is 25 floors. Let's see Stinson do the same thing and ALSO go 3 times higher - 75 floors!!

Question. How high is the escarpment brow in relation to say Gore Park in metres? Like will you easily when looking southbound, be able to look down Upper James St, or is the escarpment still taller than that height.

yup...the escarpment is something like 350-400 feet higher than King and James.
I've been in the top floor units at Landmark Place (beautiful units by the way) and you can look down on the escarpment.
If Stinson can pull off this monster, you'll be able to see it from anywhere on the Mountain, especially the south Mountain which gradually slopes up the further south you go.
I was on York today and noticed the top of the Connaught sticking up behind Copps...I was envisioning Sapphire behind it...man, it would be huge. it would be visible from all over town, espeically since we don't have many highrises outside of downtown to block views.
I realize we're way ahead of ourselves, but it's exciting to think that it might happen.

I am up but I am going to another party out of town. No one important there.

I met Harry and John at a private party last night. I was talking to him and I found that he is now a full fledged Hamiltonian. He is committed to this city and in turning it around. He loves this place! It has so much untaped potential. He is not concerned with nay sayers and people who do not want to change. He has seen them all and he said they are everywhere including Toronto. He has sucssesfully delt with them in the past and will have no problem with them in Hamilton.

I asked him about the money for the Connaught and he said it is there. He will have everything in place within a month. He plans to open an office in there soon. Part of the deal is to get in there immediately. He is working on and will have new detailed renderings and floor plans ready for public viewing in 3 weeks. He plans to have a sales office open within 3 months and start selling units. He said that it will be open for business for Christmas 2009.

As to the high rise tower. He wants it to be 80 floors and it is the Sapphire Tower project being moved to Hamilton. That is why he can do it quickly. Most of the work and research is done already.

He is a very interesting person. Very driven and yeah, he has had failures in the past but I find that most people who are sucssessfull have had failers in the past. It just makes them smarter and more driven to make things happen.

yup...anyone who's ever done anything in life has failures along the way.
Championship winning sports teams, inventors - check out the story on the invention of the light bulb...a ton of failures along the way. Same with air travel, technological advances etc.....
That's a vital part of life. Failing and then getting up and being even more driven to succeed again.
Naysayers do jack-all with their lives, except annoy everyone and take delight in others' failures. and when they finally succeed, the naysayers move on and find someone/something else to criticize. Misery loves company and Hamilton has been proof of that in recent years.
Some huge steps forward would shut up a lot of the idiots and start to breed an attitude of success and hope.
