It's just another hick politician from nowhere Alberta. Boo hoo. There will be virtually no connecting passengers from Bonneyville so let's talk about more important matters for YEG. As for why this is news? Because it's the Edmonton SUN. They must have ran out of car ads so they printed this dribble.

Until the Muni is closed, things like this will continue to close.

Wouldn't be too hard to form a citizens league or coalition and get a closure on the ballot for the next city election. Does Edmonton have a petition process, or is the only route through getting approval from councillors?

Yes, you can get a plebiscite created on the 2010 ballot...and a few of us are working on just that. You need 10% of the population to sign though...

Considering that you are now on the Indy circut why not really close the airport and make the area the new Northlands area. It is close to downtown and could be developed into an amazing recreation/sports venue.

Nope.... save it for the Expo in 2017, and then make it into a TOD/False Creek, etc. (complete with options of a urban street race like Rio(?))

You probably don't want to change the course since it is one of the most highly ranked tracks by drivers in the course (well at least in CHAMP)

An arena on the muni site would be a terrible, terrible idea. Hello, Rexall II - arena in the middle of nowhere.

Who said anything about an arena...? Northlands makes more money off other ventures.

^ Yeah, but do you want a horseracing track on the Muni site? Or a casino, because that doesn't need to be Nlands.

And with the Agricom expanion, they're not going to be looking at building new tradeshow facilities offsite anytime soon.

And if Rexall goes away, they'll have plenty of land at their existing site for expansion.

So Muni + Northlands doesn't make much sense to me.

Complete Northlands as the Agricultural meeting and recreation centre of Edmonton.

Open the Muni as the Raceway/Casino....whatever highspeed centre including the avaition museum.

Sports like Hockey in the new rexall.

I am not one to say something negative about a airline but infinitair's plans to service Bonneyville on a sched are not the best planned. The reason I say this is because most traffic from/to Bonneyville is oil patch related and most oil companies have deals with various small charter operator's to fly crew's in and out of the area.As for buisness traffic, I can say they will likely see very little of that (maybe a few a week) but nothing that can justify a sched run.

The service will likely fail, and then guess who gets blamed???

New food and beverage outlets under construction at EIA
Four new outlets, three renovations to expand customer options

EDMONTON – Customers at Edmonton International Airport (EIA) will soon a have a much wider array of food and beverage choices with four new outlets and renovations to three existing restaurants.

Two new Starbucks, a new Mountain Lodge Bar and Grill and the recently opened Tim Hortons in the North Terminal passenger lounge will add to the choices consumers have at EIA. As well, Sbarro Restaurant is under renovation, Montana’s Front Porch is being expanded and Jasper Mountain Eatery and Breworks will undergo significant renovations and be split into two separate restaurants to become Jasper Lounge and Grill.

“EIA is Canada’s fastest-growing major airport and our concession partner, HMSHost, has delivered a food and beverage program that ensures our services meet our customers’ expectations,” says Reg Milley, President and CEO, Edmonton Airports. “We are particularly pleased to offer new services in the United States (U.S.) passenger lounge as we welcome the remarkable rise in the number of U.S. non-stop flights over the past several years.”

“It has been great working with the EIA team to create a first-class concessions program for passengers travelling to points in Canada and beyond. These restaurants and brands will clearly make the EIA traveller’s day better,” said Joe Waller, Vice President of Business Development for HMSHost.

New and improved food and beverage services include:

Tim Hortons – EIA now has two full-service Tim Hortons, one on Arrivals Level and the newly opened Tim Hortons in the North Terminal passenger lounge.

Sbarro – This Italian-style, quick-service eatery offering pizza, pastas, and salads is under renovation to improve the layout and lighting for customers.

Montana’s Front Porch – This restaurant offers fine home-style cooking, including signature appetizers and sandwiches in Central Hall (post security). A new 28-seat patio and expanded kitchen are under construction. The restaurant is operating throughout most of the addition. Scheduled completion: March 21, 2008.

Starbucks – Two new outlets with the first location in the U.S. passenger lounge. The second Starbucks is in the South Terminal passenger lounge. Both locations will feature Starbucks’ famous coffee and grab-and-go food selections. The second location replaces the Sports Scene retail store. Scheduled openings: April 1, 2008.

Mountain Lodge Bar and Grill – A full-service, sit-down restaurant with 125 seats located in Central Hall (post-security). It will use much of the existing footprint of the current Jasper Mountain Eatery and Breworks, but passengers will access it from the passenger lounge instead of the public departures area. Scheduled opening: May 30, 2008.

Jasper Lounge and Grill – This 50-seat diner style restaurant in Central Hall departures area will replace the remaining Jasper Mountain Eatery. It will offer a similar sized menu to Montana’s Front Porch. Scheduled opening: May 30, 2008.

Another full-service restaurant in the U.S. passenger lounge is scheduled to open later this year.

“We will continue to work with HMSHost to deliver the quality and selection of food and beverage options our customers want,” says Milley. “This is especially important as we continue to grow and move from a small regional airport to a mid-size international gateway.”

The new restaurants and expanded food services help set the stage for the $1-billion expansion and the new opportunities for food and beverage services at EIA. The EIA terminal expansion to the south will add 13 new gates, bringing the total to 30 and have the capacity to serve nine million passengers per year.

Absolutely, great to see that there are a number of changes underway versus a new Starbucks or Timmys here and there.
