And you always have to factor in how the passengers would be getting to these destinations before a direct flight existed. It is still counted as PAX out and in even if it was a connection through YYZ, YVR, etc. But tuffyy is correct about new routes spurring growth.

personally, i'd rather see eva air ( http://www.evaair.com/html/b2c/english/eva/Corporate_profile/Flight_routes/ ). they already fly to/from vancouver and some of air canada's flights/routes are - or at least were - filled by eva. and they fly a rather wicked "combo" passenger/freight 747-400 within their fleet...

A combi 747 wouldnt be a bad idea, and no one really seems to be opposed to the idea from YEG.

I am sure Alberta's very large Asian community would welcome a link that much closer to home...

Most of AB's Asian population are from Hong Kong or mainland China, very few from Taiwan. I could see an airline from China or Hong Kong before any airline from Taiwan.

There's something I just noticed that's pretty odd, IMO, about the recent Mexicana announcement for YEG. The new flights by Mexicana to Calgary were announced way back in November last year, yet flights to both YEG and YYC start on the same date. Not to mention that there's absolutely nothing in Mexicana's site regarding YEG.

Mexicana took a week or so to start advertising YYC-MEX aswell, it was just announced for us and will be added to the Mexicana site soon.

I few billboards are also in the works aswell from what I have gathered.
