The south lakefront (and really the south side, in general) is really under utilized despite the large ammenities it actually has. IIT, Comiskey, U of C, McCormick Place, ...
It really seems that the olympics and just old-fashioned bold thinking has inspired an "awakening" that maybe will one day link downtown all the way to woodlawn with thriving neighborhoods. I mean, seriously, OFFICE SPACE? Who does the south side think they are, River North?

Unlike other cities that maybe don't have the land potential, ammenities or will to grow, chicago just needs to keep the people flowing in...

I have never heard of this new proposal, but it is exciting to say the least.

In regards to the 222 W Randolph rendering and its status as out of date. A competition for that building design was held. On emporis, it lists Goettsch as the architect.. do you think that means that they won and know something we don't?

If we land the olympics, I really doubt it wouldn't be done by then. it would be a wasted opportunity.

That is not a sure thing yet. IDOT has to approve it first through thier own review, which will not begin untill the zoning approvals are in place, which they now will be after the ordinance is published about a mont from now. That is why the NIMBYs lost the anti-heliport debate, because the city does not have the expertise to claim if the heliport is safe or not. And thankfully plenty of clear thinking commissioners on the plan commission and zoning committee realized that.

Only after the review is complete, and IDOT performs thier own tests on top of the completed building, will it be determined if Children's will have a permit to utilize the helipad.

PLAN C: Developer Michael Reschke first wanted to build two residential high-rises on his property along the Chicago River between Lake and Randolph. Then he switched to one hotel and one apartment building. But those markets are brutal and debt is scarce, so he's switching again. He said he will ask city officials to rewrite the zoning to let him build a single office tower of about 55 stories.

This would likely make the building taller then 200 N.Riverside which ideally would be taller then either of its neighbors since its the focal point at the end of the river. Having a taller neighbor may look kinda odd and diminish the look of 200 Riverside. Just another reason to persuade Hines to bump up the height (yes I know it ain't happening)

Also it was nice thinking about even more prospective residents but yet another tall sexy office tower ain't a bad choice for the area.
