Nah...I think the gold should be dumped. Its too much of a random element, despite being repeated in the roof.

That image is almost a year old - the current schematic is totally different.

Wow a 70 story office building???? This guy is thinking big. That would definatley be an interesting place for one. Its also interesting to see a guy propose a plan for an office building that different in size from most other office buildings farther north from there. I think it would be great for that area as it is dense but far too residential. Its dead out there during the day and doesnt foster anything of a true urbanized neighborhood yet.

Spontaneous aneurism. Maybe if the office tower respected its historic context...

Tentative plans for the more than 23-acre development, to be named Gateway, include a monorail and an 18th Street ramp and street connecting Lake Shore Drive with Michigan Avenue. A pedway is also planned for Lake Shore Drive.
monorail, monorail, monorail...

Wow, this guy is thinking big, Monorail, Pedway under LSD, cover up the tracks, build another link between Michigan and LSD... This is a really surprising development... Maybe this office tower is the Supertall Pandemonious rumored a long time ago...

One L of a battle for Prime Group
February 6, 2008
BY DAVID ROEDER

PLAN C: Developer Michael Reschke first wanted to build two residential high-rises on his property along the Chicago River between Lake and Randolph. Then he switched to one hotel and one apartment building. But those markets are brutal and debt is scarce, so he's switching again. He said he will ask city officials to rewrite the zoning to let him build a single office tower of about 55 stories.

70 floors x 14' = 980ft. It'd be close, and depend a lot on the crown.

I wonder where the monorail would go? Just a short run to connect McCormic to the EL?

The tower would be built on air rights over Amtrak-owned commuter rails.
Wow. Combined with 200 N Riverside, those tracks will be completely gone. Lets's hope he also works with the 200N Riverside team to integrate the riverfront plazas.

Holy crap! Thats some pretty exciting news regarding Fogelson's proposal. Id really love to see some renderings when available.

I think its highly coincidental with the Olympics proposal, but its broad vision like this that can make this city even greater. I also believe the south loop and near south side should and could be the "center of the south south side" as the guy put it, at least in terms of residential density and an office center, and eventually retail and dining. With this development, besides a freaking monorail, you can also imagine another el stop for the red, orange and green lines. Also, lets not forget the prairie shores proposal, and the addition of thousands of new residents there as well. It could be like another mini downtown, or a gold coast-south. The possibilities are crazy.

A 70 story office tower may be a little out of place there at first (in fact its hard to remember anywhere else where such a huge office space was introduced to a relatively empty market), but its big thinking like this that could really help transform this area into a new hub of the city.
