Raggedy, you didn't understand my point at all. My slight annoyance at Yume-sama's comments had nothing to do with the emoticon he used. It was all about him describing Shangri-La as "stumpy", which I found inexplicable. We resolved our little disagreement anyway so why you chose to weigh in after the fact, leaves me going

So what are people's thoughts on the Shangri-La's base? It hasn't really got a ton of attention on here considering how great an addition it is likely to be and considering it is the main part of the development that us average people will actually interact with.

Last time I looked, there was some interesting sort of frosted-looking glass going up on the Georgia-facing base structure/atrium. It looks pretty good from the outside but I was wondering if it was a good idea from an insider's perspective as it lets in relatively less light and of course provides no views to the outside. I'm assuming the whole thing won't be like that but I suppose I'm wondering how much is too much? Also, what use is going into this Georgia-facing glass/steel-frame atrium? Is that the gallery?

I've always wondered what they do with those models. I could see some rich Vancouver billionaire renting out an airplane hanger and re-creating downtown using those models. I so would.... .

But that is a very nice model, I hadn't seen it before... never visited the Shangri-la presentation center.

^That would be pretty sweet... at least assuming all the models were done to the same scale. I think I would have a hard time restraining myself from going Godzilla on a giant downtown model like that.

After looking over those pics I just posted, I realized there is something else about the base I've been wondering. It may have already been answered a long time ago, but... does the pool in that first pic have a clear glass wall on the Alberni side? Or am I looking at things the wrong way?

It would be a really cool feature if that were the case, but at the same time I would be surprised as I wouldn't think that hotel patrons would want to be turned into an aquarium exhibit for those standing on Alberni.

I would think it might just be for show on the model... but it does seem weird to do that. It's possible it could be designed as an infinity pool... though I'm not sure it would have the desired effect that you usually aim for with those (lining up on the horizon with another body of water). It's probable the model was just like that so you could see for sure it is a pool.... who knows

It seems like the podium is really harsh to the street life on alberni and georgia. Maybe I'm just not seeing it yet, but from the model and the progress so far, it looks like all we're gonna get as u walk by is a concrete wall or frosted glass.

I agree about all the models of buildings. I would be like a cat in a catnip forest if i had a model skyline of the city. Like you said Raggedy the hard part is getting them all the same scale, because it's kind of fucked up if they are all different scales (like I expect they would be). Here in Victoria we used to have a tourist attraction called "land of the little people" that I used to love as a kid. We still have "Miniature World".

The base of the building looks like there's going to be walkways and pools and restaurants and fountains-very nice!

That's Cielo and that's not the penthouse, it's an amenity room, acutally the gym for the residents.

Why do they have slab supports (the orange posts) on the second, third and fourth floors from the top but not on the highest completed floor? Is that floor structurally stronger than the ones below?
