I am big into sneakers and hadn't heard a single word about Kitch until 3 weeks ago. Went up there to check them out and they were closed. Wasn't it located next to Z Gallery? It's a free standing building with absolutely nothing but brick on 3 sides.

10 Atlantic Station buildings to be repaired; leaks found

An Atlantic Station official said Friday the Midtown development will make repairs to 10 buildings because of leaks found in three of them.
The 2-year-old, mixed-use buildings in the heart of the massive development will each take an estimated four months to fix and the work is likely to continue into early next year, said Brian Leary, vice president with AIG Global Real Estate Investment Corp.

The extent of the problems was discovered last summer after complaints from businesses.
Leary said horizontal joints that allow concrete to expand and contract from temperature changes were installed improperly. Either they were in the wrong places or there were not enough of them, he said.
One of the buildings includes the ATLofts condominiums. Atlantic Town Center, the development owner, met with condo residents Thursday night about the repair work.
"Atlantic Town Center is updating ATLofts to fix or avoid potential construction issues and to ensure they meet Atlantic Station's high standard of quality and are in keeping with the reputation of this mixed-use community," Leary said.
Two large concrete balconies with cracks also will be replaced, he said. Doc Green's Gourmet Salads and Au Bon Pain are two restaurants that complained of leaks from the balconies, prompting an investigation that revealed the "comprehensive" problem, Leary said.
He did not have a cost figure for the repairs.
The Vratsinis Construction Co. (VCC) out of Dallas, Texas, was the general contractor during construction of the buildings, which opened in 2005. Metro Waterproofing of Scottdale is doing the repairs.
"We're not blaming anyone right now. This is the start of a process," Leary said.

Could someone point me in the direction of AS "high standard of quality"?
I noticed today the 1st 3 floors of the entire side of the building with JOS Bank is covered in Scaffolding as well as a number of the other buildings being repaired. All the stores are hanging canvas signs on the scaffolding and it looks like the aftermath of a tornado. It's too bad they can't tear these down and start over. The really sad part is they will spend the next year and a half repairing the buildings and the end result will be the same fake painted brick stucco exterior.

Couldn't agree more.
I wonder, if an AS patron got angry enough he/she could probably punch a whole in stucco facade. Such expensive and tedious work for a marginal building.
There was an article in the AJC today that said the Atl Track club asked Georgia Tech if they could use the campus as a finish for the Peachtree Road Race this year. GT turned them down. The article mentioned that AIG has offered Atlantic Station as a possible finish line, but the Peachtree organizers have not approached them. Although Atlantic Station has done a poor job in the past at handling crowds, I think this could be a good opportunity for Atlantic Station to step up and host one of the premiere events in Atlanta. It would allow the Peachtree to keep Lenox as the start point and preserve a similar route. If successful it may lead to hosting other big events and improve Atlantic Stations image. If they did a poor job, it could open Atlantic Station up to more ridicule and criticism for not living up to what the area could have been or become.
It will be interesting to see what the Peachtree organizes decide, but I'm not sure there are alot of better options at this point.
