That looks pretty good. I could take or leave the funky colours of the condos, but great to see mixed use.

not to crush everyones dreams, but Camico hasnt finishsed their new building, they wont move to downtown for a few years, because it would be stupid to abandon a newly built building. but i wouldnt be suprised if Saskatoon had a new tallest anounced in the coming year.

They can sell their new building

If the right developer and proposal is presented, Cameco may move sooner rather than later.

I really enjoy the funky colors, a really nice addition to that end of 20th street.

You know I think it's just the shade of green that turns me off. But you're right, it's still better than beige or pink stucco.

20th St is undergoing somewhat of a rejuvanation it seems. I guess the condo / library project is a fairly promising development. Lucky Horseshoe bingo moved away from the location on ave g or h and move to the adilman building closer to Idylwyld. I wonder what is going to go in place of the now vacant former grocery store? Tear down and Condo's again? An actual grocery store?
And there is still a possibility for something to be done about the Barry Hotel.
I'm all for 20th St. to be a mini-broadway, and for the area as a whole to improve it's image. I think we may finally be moving in that direction.

Station 20 West is a great example of urban renewal for that area of the city.

As mentioned before, the housing/library component is nearly complete. IMO, the more exciting part of the project is still to come, that is the Community Enterprise Centre that will sit on the property at the corner of 20th and Avenue L. Along with a dental and medical clinic and other community services to be located in the facility, a neighborhood owned grocery store (more info here) will be opened on the first floor by CHEP Good Food Inc.

I've been doing some volunteer work this past year with a partner organization involved in Station 20 West. They are very excited and optimistic about what this development will do for the area.

Indeed, it will be exciting to watch how Station 20 and other projects and developments in the area transform 20th street and the surrounding neighborhoods.

Whoa, when did that happen? I noticed the Lucky Horseshoe had removed their large sign, but figured they were just replacing it...hmmmm, I can think of many things that could go in the existing building, or on that property after demolition of the building...mixed-use, more park space...I'll have to give some more thought to this.

Its in the process of happening right now. I think residential is a good option for that site. However, I heard a church group purchased the building...

Mayor Don Atchison let the audience of his state of the city address have a peak at his wish list today.

Atchison commented on how wonderful it would be for Saskatoon if Cameco built a 30 storey head office downtown.

Cameco spokesperson Lyle Khran says it's a possibility they could relocate downtown.
He says Cameco has outgrown it's current location and all the options are on the table, but nothing has been decided.

And Khran says if Cameco wanted to build something that large, they could, because they have the resources to make it happen.

Khran says there is no timeline as to when a decision might be made.

Man, Cameco could reeeaaaallly work the tax abatements - once the mayor starts sounding all hot and bothered to get a tower built downtown, Cameco can take advantage of all sorts of incentives to make it that much more financially worthwhile. Especially if this is the start of a commercial boom in Saskatoon.

Looking at Calgary (sorry to keep comparing), but after their housing boom in 04-06, I noticed a commercial construction boom followed. I suspect that's what we're in for here.

Also, I think that rendering of Station 20 West looks awesome! Multicoloured condos were also featured in that marketing video for Willowgrove, but I just can't see them being built in suburbia. 20th St W is much more likely, and probably better received.

30 stories? Given floorplate scales can Saskatoon really absorb 500,000 square feet of space? Does Cameco need that much space?

What is the land situation like in downtown Saskatoon? There might now be too much land to warrant reasonably tall commercial buidlings.

Calgary didn't get major buildings downtown until the late 60s, when Calgary's population was around 350k. Even before the first oil crisis/boom, more and more offices were being planned for downtown Calgary due to the city councils commitment to solidify downtown as a preeminent business core. If it hadn't, Calgary's suburbs would be more like Missisauga and downtown would be much less impressive.

I'm glad your mayor is actively championing this. I hope its the start of many good things!

Church group eh?

Interesting, affordable housing might be in the cards...I've read that the city is hoping more faith-based organizations develop affordable housing projects, perhaps this could be one of them

Interesting. Is that what the new owner of the Adilman Bldg. had in mind all along when he said he planned to put retail on the 1st floor... the Lucky Horseshoe??

I wonder if he is still going ahead with the plans he outlined late last year when he bought it: reno the building, convert the second floor into office space and put retail and a pub on the ground floor?

I hope that plan hasn't fallen through so quickly. The Lucky Horseshoe as its lone occupant hardly seems sufficient use of the building. I thought the new owner was dreaming a bit bigger than that.

At any rate, it's better than the Adilman sitting completely empty. Or being reduced to rubble.

I'm also curious to see what will become of the former LH Bingo location.

It'll put more people on that end of 20th street which is good, although I wonder where all the patrons will park their vehicles, as the former site had a large well used parking lot. The nearest lot to the Adilman building is just down Avenue B, a bit of a walk I suppose (animate the street )
