Better for One Court Square (if not the Legislature) would be to use that block for an Arena. Something brick about 4 or five stories high should do just fine.

I actually agree more with that. The new tallest at that site would still fill the void of highrise in between RSA and Commerce St.... and is still close to the high concentration of revitalization. The Arena in my opinion is a must for Downtown..... wish they would do something similiar to the Coleman Coliseum in Tuscaloosa. On 2nd thought...... how nice would an Arena be near the river and Riverwalk?

The problem with RSA waiting so long to reveal its plans for the former Judicial Building is that much of the work has already begun.

Had they revealed that this option was the only option that they could make work, I suspect many of the supporters of the former Judicial Building would have preferred that it simply be paved over and turned into a park.

While neither would be considered good options (and certainly would not conform to the overall downtown plan) both of those options would still detract less from the overall downtown and Dexter Avenue corridor.

RSA is pitching itself as some type of "White Knight" riding into save the former judicial building. Unfortunately, nobody told us that the knight was going to pillage the neighborhood while doing so.

A classic forest and the trees scenario.

So you are saying Montgomery can't support the 15-20k? The Auburn arena will seat 9800 it looks like, we already have the Acadome.

The BI-LO Center is a state-of-the-art 15,000 seat sports and entertainment arena. The entertainment industry has consistently recognized the BI-LO Center as one of the top 50 venues in the world.

We also already have Garrett Coliseum (13,500)

I'd still like a nice new, downtown arena.

I think the Coliseum will eventually be "slightly" remodeled and used as a venue for hosting events such as the rodeo & the fair. Montgomery needs a new arena..... we could be competing for so many forms of entertainment with a state of the art venue. We could also create a lasting formula for the various sports that might call Montgomery home such as the football team and the possible basketball team I've heard about. These are the things that will make Downtown Montgomery a 24-hour destination, and that's basically the central idea of all revitalization.

This is what Montgomery needs. It's almost Montgomery's style....... take the Shakespeare Theatre for instance, world class in Montgomery.

A high-energy circus performance will introduce tri-county residents to a new arts and entertainment venue -- the Montgomery Performing Arts Centre.

The opening act for the arts center, which is a part the Renaissance Montgomery Hotel and Spa at the Convention Center, will be Cirque Des Amis, with three shows scheduled for March 7, 8 and 9. Tickets go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. and can be purchased through TicketMaster and www.ticketmaster.com. Ticket prices range from $20 to $50.

Manager Allen Sanders has booked four other acts for March and has eight other shows scheduled through September, including musical performances by B.B. King, George Jones, Jason Aldean, Ronnie Milsap and Loretta Lynn.

Milsap is slated to perform on March 21 and Lynn on March 28. Tickets ($44-$64) for Lynn's performance go on sale at 10 a.m. Jan. 11. A sale date for the Milsap concert has not been determined.

The center's stage is large enough for first-run Broadway shows, allowing Sanders to draw such popular shows as the musical "Jesus Christ Superstar" and the romantic comedy "Three Ways to Get a Husband," which has shows scheduled for March 21-23. Tickets ($31.50 to $39.50) go on sale Friday.

The final show of March features veteran comic James Gregory at 8 p.m. March 29. Tickets ($15 to $25) also go on sale Friday.

Totally obvious. A new downtown arena is definitely a must need for the city.

I know thoraudio absolutely loves the thought of placing an arena at Court Square,

but I don't know where there would be enough space to park...unless the new Lightning Route will have tracks that went from the arena to a new parking area along Court Street near the Capitol Towers apt. building, that could shuttle people to it.

I still believe the Old Alabama Rails property would be the most likely and easiest area to build an arena and parking space adjacent to it.

i wish i had the pockets of a certain turquoise roofed developer,
that area would the new hot area to live (our own atlantic station without the issues people say it has) hey we can all dream cant we?

I stumbled upon this forum and thread while reading up on the proposed RSA Tower on Dexter Avenue. I have really enjoyed taking my time and reading this entire thread!!!

I work in a tower facing the old First Tuskegee Bank building and can confirm that work is mostly interior and seems to be coming along well. Before I left work last night, the sun was mostly down and I could see the men working on the rooms of the new Hampton Inn. They appear to be busy, even though that is not still obvious from the outside of the building.

As a native of Montgomery, I am interested in all of this and am glad to have discovered this forum...

Is there any News concerning the Riverwalk Area of Downtown Montgomery. Have any new restaurants located there and are they close to opening the New Orleans alley ? I was there for a funeral in August and was impressed with Court Square.
