TimeSaltLake, I know what project your talking about. I notice it the other week while the wife and I were on a drive. There was a billboard with a rendering that looks to be a 4-5 story apartment building. Looks kind of cool. Viperlord do you know anything about this project?

I know of this project. My company did the survey for the parcel that this is being proposed on.

I'd love to see it happen, because I live on West Capitol Hill (Marmalade). But I don't think Beck Street will fundamentally change until the oil refineries are gone, and that probably won't happen in our lifetimes. The 300 West corridor will soon be much better though.

That's it. Thanks viperlord. I never know that this is going to be a mix-use building. That's even better then just being apartments. I do like how it's five-stories. This building will stick out in the area. ( I just hope it sticks out in more of a good way then in a bad way. ) LOL
But it does look like it could be stucco.

I like the dimensions of the building too. I'm wondering which of the renderings are correct, as far as the exterior and color scheme. It looks like they used a hardie board shingle on the top floor of the bottom rendering. That would be a nice touch.

They almost look like the Residential building they just finished on 200 south and 200 or 300 east? It is a 4 story building.

I know Everyone here (mostly everyone) is all about growth in the CBD and I am too but, today while I was at Lunch, I was looking towards the Downtown from the Airport. I was trying to imagine how much better the skyline was going to be, especially when there is no longer two island of buildings, and it made me kind of sad to see how fast we are growing. We will one day have a completely new skyline, a skyline of a bigger and better city, and I was thinking about how much I will miss my big town. It was almost a shiny tear moment, but then I was distracted by the stupidity of airline passengers.

Is that the one they put the California Craftsman-style finish to? That is a really cool looking little multi-level!

Trolley Square; Shopping mall is undergoing spiffy $60 million renovation

http://www.deseretnews.com/article/1,5143,695235582,00.html

The first of the $60 million in changes were started in April, and the completion is still two years away. Among the highlights are new retail buildings along the western edge that will be atop a new parking area, as well as a new building for Whole Foods in the northeast quadrant, improved pedestrian corridors, gathering areas for families and elements to make the interior more "open."

Above is the east side of Trolley Square in Salt Lake City. The trolley barns that house the Mall's interior retailers, left are nearly a century old. 'Trying to create an extraordinary experience'

"It was so dark before, but now it seems a lot brighter and more cheerful," said Sara Fitzgerald of Taylorsville, shopping at Trolley on Wednesday morning.

Trolley Square redevelopment

* A $10 million renovation of the 160,000-square- foot main mall, on the block bordered by 500 South and 600 South and 600 East and 700 East, is nearing completion.
* Work will begin soon on a 300-space underground parking structure and an additional 40,000 square feet of retail space fronting 600 East.
* Work will begin next year on a 53,000-square-foot building for Whole Foods Market as well as a 250-space parking garage. Completion on the last phase is scheduled by fall 2009.

Eastern Metro - Oakley - Summit County

Oakley begins to transform
Boardwalks, pedestrian plaza, grocery store part of plan

http://www.parkrecord.com/county/ci_7701427

The newest addition to Oakley is the 1940s Road Island Diner that was hoisted onto a crane Wednesday and taken from a parking lot on Center Street to 981 Weber Canyon Road...
... The diner was built in Elizabeth, N.J. and featured at the New York World's Fair in 1939, Walker explained.

Mostly good news on the Future Mayor development front.

I presented my proposal last night to my real estate development class and it was a huge success. The instructors both felt that I nailed the analysis on the head. I only missed one small analytical tool. So the feasibility according to the initial analysis is very very optomistic. While I still have no option on the properties I can't give specifics except to say the project will be a nice peice in the overall puzzle of downtowns revitalization and the building will be LEED certified.

good to hear future mayor, especially the LEED part.

Since I was complaining about projects not being worked on I should say that when I passed 222 S main yesterday there were several crews at work on it, so that's good.

Old Planetarium

I notice the other day while driving down state street in downtown that there is now a fence around the old Old Planetarium building. Looks like O.C.Tanner is getting ready to remodel that building for their new downtown store.
Let's hope they don't put Stucco on that Old Planetarium building.

Man, would that be a disaster or what? But you know there probably are some people who would think that was tasteful.

I passed the Broadway Lofts today, looks like excavation and foundation work going on. I was up at the U. of U. and then came down 400 south. Man, I wonder when that corridor will start the type of development that is worthy of that particular street. I'm speaking of between about 900 East and 400 East. There's so much potential there with TRAX and all. Now as it is, you have all of these tiny, nothing buildings with waaaaay to many surface parking lots.

You're contradicting yourself delts. Why would anyone consider building there when land is so much cheaper on the outskirts of town, and there's no demolition involved. The same could be said about southern Main Street. Everything is interconnected.

Excuse me Urbanboy, but exactly how much demolition is needed for a parking lot? Oh, and I'm sorry, but I wasn't aware that a 900 sq. ft shack was heavy infrastructure. And then let's not forget that this is 400 south, which should become TOD paradise. What the freak are you even talking about???

I'm referring to your comments on the Utah Valley Development News Thread. No need to be defensive.

Urbanboy, obviously you could not have missed that I was talking about 400 south specifically. Now what exactly does the development style of a TRAX corridor such as 400 south, have to do with Gehry's development? What one might think is appropriate for 400 south should not be confused with what might fit well at Traverse Ridge, in an empty field. How is that a contradiction?

I'm not offened or defensive, just confused by your assumption.
