My pleasure. It's amazing how much highrise construction is going on in Chicago, especially compared to my current home, LA. Chicago's construction is so extensive, the only way I could begin to capture it was by driving around all day and shooting out my rental car window!

Unfortunately, I won't be able to return until summer so I'll continue to rely on talented regulars like SolarWind, Harry C, Hydrogen, etc., for photo updates.

Architect for Marquee on Michigan is Mark McKinney of Sedgwick Properties, the developer. This was the original design:

Roszak produces some decent work too (strong emphasis on 'decent'). But in general, I agree with you.

^ More than that, this is a staggered truss structural system, which is the first of its kind in Chicago.

Since my last post with a more technical article was appreciated in the Chicago Spire thread, here is a link to a very nice page from the Chicago-based American Society of Steel Construction (AISC), which has detailed technical information about the system and this project. Scroll down for 3-D structural models of the building if you are interested.

Thanks - I see this one in the distance, never knew it was unique as this. Looking back at the photos I see what they are talking about. Is all this pre-cast ? no gangs of ironworkers assembling rebar in fanciful patterns ?

^ Great shots! They have that "gritty urban" feeling that seems harder to find nowadays... didn't know LaSalle looked like that from above (maybe more interesting than on the sidewalk?).

How'd I guess you'd be photographing this one already?

The base levels were cast in place, but I am pretty certain that the rest will be precast.
