Again I REALLY don't think it will happen, I'll only believe it when the walls start going up.

Whether Sandy wants it or not, even if they get the money for it. If they simply do a feasibility study on the demand for that type of facility in Sandy it won't happen. A large broadway style theater even if it gets built will not work in the current Sandy.

They can hope, want and deal all they want but that type of large theater won't work unless it's in an Urban setting.

Don't get me wrong I'm all for Sandy creating an arts district I think it will do the city good and the MSA will benefit from a Sandy Arts District but it will only be able to support a much smaller theater.

I'm not sure what happened to the rest of my quote, but I'll post it again:

I heard from a very prominent Salt Lake City business man, who is furious about it! The theater will be funded, at least in part, by the County hotel tax dollars, which were slated to go towards a new Broadway-style theater in Downtown Salt Lake City! Mayor Tom Dollan is very Dishonest Dishonest Dishonest!

Sorry but I'm going to have to doubt you on this Urban Boy. I don't doubt that this is what you were told and I'm sure the business man thinks he heard that, but I really don't think the county will fund a Broadway style/size theater in Sandy. I could see Sandy getting some Hotel tax money for a theater, and that wouldn't bother me, but I would be willing to lay money on the fact that they are not getting money for a the "large" theater slated for downtown.

You say Tom Dolan is the evil man, which I'm not agreeing with but if Sandy really does get the theater Dolan is simply doing his job. His job is to make Sandy the best place it can be, no I don't agree with his methods. If the county funds it, it should be the county officials that we should be pissed off at. They are the ones responsible for giving the money, not Dolan.

I agree Future Mayor. Look, downtown Salt Lake is developing at an astonishing pace. Five years from now it will be quite a different place. It is a well known and researched fact that Downtown is ready for a larger theatre. Whether Sandy builds it's cultural aspect or not, Downtown will still see a Broadway size theatre in it's heart in the near future.

Utah has the potential to be a major exporter of clean energy.
Make that mega major.

Sandy seems to be doing some things that aren't quite honest. They took money meant for a South Towne Exhibition center parking structure and put it into the soccer stadium. Now they're trying to lure the aquarium and theatre away from Salt Lake. They seem to be able to come up with more money than Salt Lake. It's probably true that there's more income down there.

..but the way I understand these developments, the "income down there" doesn't have much to do with the $ going into these projects. They're siphoning money from all of Salt Lake County, which is more than just Sandy and Salt Lake City. By doing this they're putting a serious drain on funds that could be used to develop more than just those two cities. If Sandy wants a theater, fine. But don't use county dollars to build up Sandy's tax base.

Metro - NORTH SALT LAKE

Eaglewood Village to break ground

The development is intended to be fully mixed-use, combining 570 living units with restaurants, retail, and office spaces, much like the Riverwood project down in Provo.

NORTH SALT LAKE — After years of planning and behind-the-scenes work, North Salt Lake’s old gravel pit is about to take its first concrete step toward becoming Eaglewood Village. A groundbreaking ceremony for the new Eaglewood Village is scheduled for Dec. 5 at 1:30 p.m. on the Eaglewood Village site, located just south of the Eagleridge roundabout in the former gravel pit area. Anyone interested is welcome to attend. “I’ve lived in this city for more than 30 years, and I’ve always wanted to see that entry area cleaned up,” said North Salt Lake Mayor Shanna Schaefermeyer. “I think this is one of the best things that could happen to North Salt Lake.”

I was looking at some past pages, specifically looking for this picture that delts posted. I was looking at the photo and I notice the newly planted Pine Tree in front of the building.

I would be interesting to find out the date of the photo. In the second picture, taken July '07 if you look closely you can barely see the same pine tree.

City Creek Center: Private Mall or Public Square?

see complete story on Utah Stories.com

Is it a private mall or is it a public square? This was one of the main topics of debate regarding the new revised City Creek Center plans that were released Thursday evening at an open house in the City and County building. Taubman Partners showed key revisions to the project in a slide show presentation. These revisions included additional condominiums and large courtyards they called Richards Court and Regence Court. Taubman intends these new areas to be fountains surrounded by open-air restaurants.
