Don, a McMansion is a very large semi-luxury home, for the undiscriminating unwashed "new money" who think more is, in short, more. Conspicuous consumption, and all that. This home is a real mansion in every sense of the word, albeit a very ugly one.
Sedona tends to attempt to limit the ability of the wealthy few to spoil the view of everyone else; it's sad they failed so miserably in this case.
No Arizona city (Phoenix, Paradise Valley, Sedona, Fountain Hills, Cave Creek) is as populist as California in their protection of their greatest asset with the beach access laws, but Arizona cities don't have the advantage of state laws to boost their efforts.
