Agreed that I like it more than Aqua. However, I would say from what I've heard so far, the concept is stronger and less contrived.

Eh, it's interesting. I don't really care for the 'tower in the park' setting. What's with the car parked in the plaza in front? Hasn't that 50's urbanism been discounted by now?

And not to start a flame war on the subject, but I've always felt designs of that type too much of a fad for long term architecture.
It's like the tatoo that seemed a good idea at the time, but will you still want it in 20 years?

The front looks like a beach - like they're taking the hatchback on a family outing to Lake Michigan.

Some of what looks just quirky on this building actually has function - there's a linked Wired article somewhere back in the thread that talks about how the raked window angles are tied into light in the 41st parallel, for instance.

That's a driveway in front, with a little bit of landscaping which mirrors the triangular indents. And going back to an earlier post, there's a summer solstice too.

Hey everyone, I have quick question! The Trio is currently being built over by were I live, and I noticed a very small high rise construction crain doing the work for the High Rise portion of the Project. Is this crain temporary, or does it extend higher then what it appears? Sorry if its an easy question to most of you, but i'm not educated in high rise construction.

yes, the optima old archard woods project is great. i'm just not a big fan of the setting, and i'm jealous that skokie was blessed with such bad-ass architecture while evanston (a far superior city in most other regards) rejected Optima's project at chicago and davis that took many of its cues from the old orchard project.

Mr. Hovey, please, PLEASE bring some of this wicked-awesome design to downtown chicago.

Hey, quit baggin' on Skokie. It's not even a city. It's a village.

I hope the proposed Oakton Yellow Line stop will be a catalyst for optima-esque projects in downtown Skokie. And help give Evanston a run for its money...

you know, for all the flop, and at times AWFUL, SCB projects, the streeter actually works really well with the area, and the tower design is actually not that bad. the only thing i don't like about the whole street project is that awful car pull-up drive-way thing between the two towers. i thought it was 2007, not '97. but what the hell, right?
