Does anyone know if the piles for the Roosevelt Collection included any under the High-Rise at the north end of the project? I suspect the foundation or part of it may have already been put in and thus, gives us another construction start.
Anyway, paid a visit to the outlet mall in Michigan City today, and thus a visit to see the Blue Chip Casino hotel tower...
The cooling tower for the Northern Indiana Public Service Company coal fired power station is seen in the background.....
Michigan City BONUS....
South Shore train running eastbound down the center of 11th Street
Hilltop homes near the intersection of 10th Street and Michigan Blvd
And now if you would all indulge an off topic request: If you are involved in the business of real estate, I would like to meet with you to discuss what you do.
I graduated from law school in May and moved to Chicago to pursue my dream of living and working in this fine city. The legal market, however, is not good and I'm not sure if I want to be a lawyer anyway. (My ultimate goal is to be a real estate developer). Thus, I have decided to pursue opportunities on the business side of real estate. If you are involved in the business of real estate in any way I would be interested in taking you out to lunch and learning about what you do and possible career paths that I might take. It doesn't matter if you're a small-time investor, employee of a residential developer, a commercial leasing agent or John Buck himself. I'm interested in learning all that I can. Please send me a PM if you'd be willing to help me out. Thanks!
Actually, Chicago has one of America's most robust and growing legal markets. It is also quite competitive. As a lawyer myself, I'd suggest that you work with a legal placement agency and try your hand at contract work. The pay is surprising good, but there are no benefits. In my own experience, I've seen contract attorneys hired by firms after they make themselves indispensible. This is good foot in the door, especially if you are not in the top 10% of a top ten law school. Once you've established yourself and have gotten a bit of experience under your belt, you shouldn't have a problem moving into the direction of real estate.

We will be driving 90 or so "shared" piles between the parking garage / retail / loft area and the future highrise. Call it what you want (under or not under construction), but we are not building the highrise yet, just driving shared piles. Therefore, please clarify which section of the forum this project should be discussed in, General Dev or Highrise Construction.

that heavy rail train riding down the middle of the street in what looks like a light-rail scenario looks very odd.
how much are places at the Elysian going for these days. i was in chicago recently and the location is amazing and i still salivate over its old-world redux modern design.
throwing u guys some brotherly love from philly.

Just my personal opinion, but this is an amazing proposal. Have to think a little outside the box on this, but it's not hard to envision the flags of every country flying on the light fixtures, and a perfectly placed Olympic torch at the point where the sculpture is envisioned. The view from the Lake would be breathtaking and would provide a permanent memento of the games (better than the remnants of the temporary stadium).

^I'm an attorney as well, and I second this assessment.
Ecker - those are some great pics. There is always something new to see in Chicago, i love it. Very nice job. It is great to see a variety of views and projects...
Thanks, Complex. And thanks to everyone else for the advice. I appreciate it.

Here are a couple of websites that I ran into lately that I thought might be of interest to people in this thread. I don't know how long these sites have been around or if you guys were aware of them or not.
Crib Chatter is a blog about the Chicago housing market and has interesting posts about flips and foreclosures, including many that are happening in buildings from the current boom.
Urban Real Estate is a really well-designed real estate site that shows all the current MLS listings by building and has a great map that uses Google Maps so you can see all the listings in a particular area without knowing exact addresses. It's especially useful for viewing the listings in the new towers, which I like because then I can see what the interiors are like.

oh yeah, gorgeous day today. horray
3 floors of parking (size of entire site), 2 floors retail (each side of a "plaza" level @ Roosevelt Road grade with a movie theatre at the North end of the site, and 6 floors of lofts on each side of the plaza above the retail floors. There is a high-rise planned for the far Northwest corner, but it's not in our current contract.

There's one thing wrong with that Eco-Bridge + monument plan: Burnham's Plan called for a similar thing, but the peninsula mirroring the planetarium came off of Randolph Street instead of Wacker Drive. That put the center of the arc, and the monument, in line with the Congress Street axis. Maybe it's just prejudice, but the new plan looks off-center to me because it's stretched north, and the monument lines up with Jackson.
By the way, has anyone seen the History Channel foundation crane since it left the Spire site?
