River Landing Lake Placid proposal

So, Monday is the great city council meeting to review the Lake Placid proposal. Are these the meetings I can watch on Shaw channel 10? Anybody know when they are? I'm keen to hear the discussion.

Also, I notice some comments in the S-P "sound off" section, warning that the city should build it before the naysayers / "people against everything" / small thinkers etc etc etc shoot it down. Shoot it down? How do they do this? I assume before anything, the city will put it to open houses and such to get everybody's point of view before building, but who gets a project like this shut down, if city council is in favour of it? And how? And how can a group (nudge nudge) lobby in favour of it? I'm not so familiar with how all this stuff works.

Enlighten me, please. And thanks.

I am not sure anyone could stop this if council approved it... unless a (dare I say) plebiscite stopped the sale of land. I am sure the majority of Saskatoonians want to see something built. Only a handful would really want this land empty for another 25 years until something of their liking came along... I am sure it will be unanimously approved.

BTW, yes Shaw is the channel to wach monday night.

Lake Placid

I desperately want to see this proposal go ahead. I would also like to see the project on Broadway (Meridian), done as well. I think it is good that there is Condo renovations going on in the city as well, but the more important thing for Saskatoon is its economic base. I want to see, more than anything else, a large corporation build a 30 storey office tower in the city. This is possible in the next 10-20 years, and it is through the growth of our resource industries.

On another note, I think there is a sentiment among a certain element of the 'socialist' camp in Saskatoon that - as former University of Saskatchewan Proffessor J.R. Miller claimed - "Sky Scrapers Hide the Heavens."

What should one make of this 'dilemma?'

There will be dissenting voices, as there always is, and a portion of the city will want to see the area as a big park. I am, however, not one of these people.

I would rather have an empty hole in the ground. It makes Broadway look real good.

i really wish they would just do something with that site...the building was a heritage building, but it wasnt anything particularly special. although i think a 13 story tower would be a little akward in that location...i say, 5 story modern with apartments on top and shops on street level, any other sugestions?

Sorry I think the empty lot is a better fit than that old eyesore.

Different topic:

What is actually under construction right now in the downtown?

Heard about expanding the runways (no Canada Remembers Air Show next year) and the parking lot expansion is fairly complete from what I have seen. I did not know about terminal expansion, a nice addition to Saskatoon NW development...Hampton residential, Hampton industrial and expanding Airport industrial (McNab Park).

Fully built out no later then 2015.
