My impressions are mostly positive. The architecture is a bit bland, but it still kicks the stuffing out of the old Remai proposal. I like how it's stepped back from the riverbank, and the spaces between the buildings create vistas that are appealing.

This development is absolutely gorgeous. This is something I've been wishing for a long time. The architect did a great job,...........................I'm just going to cross my fingers and hope is gets built. I hope the city council accepts it as is and makes the process smooth.
This would be the nicest development in all of Saskatchewan.

YEs it is now in the cities hands to go with this proposal. Assuming a month or six of BS from the city, so the earliest a shovel would go in the ground is next spring.

Plenty of time for the city to screw something up. The optomist that I am gives it a 50/50 chance.

This is the new white water rafting plans, i doubt it will come true because anything good that happens to saskatoon somone has to wreck it. There is also a open house on it sometime but i fourget when u will have to check their website if you want to know

For better or worse, this project has the potential to dramatically alter the character of surrounding neighborhoods (City Park, North Park, Richmond Heights), may even excite development interest for the vacant/agriculture land sandwiched between Innovation Place and the river.

New gossip. Apparently the new Holiday Inn slated for the old Pacific Cinemas site was a no go all summer long due to rising construction costs. However, as of a few weeks ago it is a go once again. The parking structure required is the costly item here, as the design would more than likely need an underground parkade.

A good sign I guess is that the current site is still a gravel Impark - not paved.

Again 50/50 chance in my eyes. Less as time goes on. But on the bright side cheap parking for the auditorium or the plaza.

I considered the idea of showing up at the open house with a kayak and paddle, to show my vigorous support of the idea, but I think now it might be more effective to just wave a cheque around in the air. Nothing talks quite like money, and if a bunch of people did that, it'd be a dramatic positive boost for them. Better yet, I should propose to be the guy setting up the kayak rental business beside it.

The open house is at the weir on Saturday September 22, from 1:00pm to 4:30pm. There's also a second open house in room 104 at Kelsey on Thursday September 27 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm.

I'm thinking of attending both.

More dreams of downtown development:

Uncertain who owned the property(largest downtown surface parking lot) across the street from the old Pacific Cinemas encouraged me to conduct research and it appears Oxford Properties is owner and operator of Midtown Plaza and the large surface parking lot.

"Midtown Plaza has the largest heated underground parking facility in the city with over 1000 surface stalls directly north and south of the plaza and 796 stalls in a heated, underground parkade."

Still curious about the potential for development, I pressed on and discovered one particular Oxford development: Calgary's Centennial Place http://constmgmt.pcl.com/projects/Active/0400183/index.aspx.

Now I'm not suggesting Oxford has plans to build an office/residential structure on the Midtown Plaza North parking lot, but I'm sure there's been internal discussion about the long term potential of that site(The Casino was a likely candidate). If Oxford's investment decision to update and expand Midtown's food court and demolish the Midtown Village structure for more parking is any indication, the Oxford Group must have a serious long term vision for Midtown Plaza and how it relates to downtown and city-wide development.

What this is really about: We need a developer to come forward with a proposal that includes an indoor tropical paradise to escape to during our cold winter months Something similar to this, albeit on a smaller scale http://www.tropical-islands.de/en/visitors/attractions/dome.html

That's huge! Very Nice

I doubt any of these large indoor escapes would be considered for Saskatoon, but surely a Saskatoon scaled development may be worth pursuing.

The closest thing we have to tropical paradise is a combination visit to Lawson Civic Center (a small wave pool) and a trip to the Mendel Conservatory (a small assortment of tropical trees and plants), both of which are quite dated and lack the complete indoor paradise experience.
