Any guesses as to what they do with it?

Did anyone ever figure out what was happening on Sask Drive near STC? I haven't been down there in a little while so I don't even know...is the equipment is still there?

I'll go out on a limb and say that lot will be used solely for parking.

Nothing...equipment is gone. Cars parked there today. No holes...just dirt parking for now.

Yep. I think it may be parking for the construction workers. That's just a guess though...

Big fence around the new Government building parkade. I assume that they will be replacing the parkade. I doubt it will be anything too fancy...i.e. retail on the bottom.

One of the buildings on Albert Street is having it's main floor re-done. No idea what is to become of it.

A couple of unofficial but interesting things I've heard the last few days...

An uncle of mine is a partner in one of the leading mechanical engineering companies in town and I asked if he's heard anything about a new office tower for downtown... he said he hadn't heard that but had recently talked to an architect friend of his who said that something big is in the works but couldn't tell him what it was.

And my neighbour, who is a realtor from Century 21, said there is a GM Distribution Centre coming to Regina. Anyone else hear this?

Very interesting. I do wonder though who may fill a new office tower if it were to be built. Hopefully it would mean some company was moving here.

My news pales in comparison, but another Hamilton Street building was getting some upgrades today. The former "Pant Shack and Boys Shop" was getting re-painted. There are still "For Lease" signs in the windows though, so perhaps they are just doing some upgrades to make it more appealing to potential tenants.

It would be nice to see something go into that Boy's Shoppe spot since it has been vacant for the better part of a decade. I guess the Bay closing and moving to the old Eatons did in retail business along that stretch of Hamilton St.

Agreed, but things do seem to be getting better as a number of vacant buildings have tenants now.

I am positive I know what company wants to build a new office here. I was talking to my cousin whom works at the refinery and he said that Shell wants to move their head office from calgary to regina. They want to move here because of the low real estate prices and because saskatchewan is thought to have more oil reserves than that of Alberta.

Shell currently owns about 3 dozen floors of ''A'' class commercial space in Calgary. That could mean that if shell actually moved here, we would have a very tall building coming our way. Maybe breaking the 30 floor barier.

There is no way they move their head Office here. It's been said in the past that they may set up some sort of office but they'll never move their head office here. Calgary is the centre for OIl and Gas, no way a big player like Shell ever moves.

Hopefully they keep some jobs in Winnipeg.

Nah, the job movement will be minimal. I bet you any new jobs will be located in their existing HQ.

Why are you so sure that a major oil company does not want to move their head office here. It would make a lot of sense for them to move to regina. Those companies are just doing what superstore did. Superstore moved to where they expected the city was going to have a major population increase. Shell is probably doing the same but instead for population, they are expecting oil.

And I doubt Shell would move to saskatoon because we are the only ones who have rumoured that we are getting a new tallest.

But on the other hand, I like the current Pool tower, it has class.

And I second that there is no way shell would relocate the HQ to Regina. I could see a regional office being set up here though

What are you quoting there?

Calgary is the OIl and Gas centre, just as Toronto is the financial centre. I just cannot see Shell Canada leaving what has become the place to be for OIl and Gas business.

on the other hand, it probably costs companies a fortune to do business in Calgary, due to high rents and lack of labour, it could be seen as a cost saving measure. If they did come here (which i dont think they would), I don't see why the would go to Saskatoon, since most of the province's oil is in the southern region.

I'm with CCF on this one.. I can't really see Shell Canada moving it's head office to Saskatchewan, however it would be a major coup for the city and the province if it did. That being said, if it is happening, I just hope an announcement is made before the next provincial election. I would hate for the Sask Party to take credit for that. What are you quoting above?? I would love to read that article if it truly exists.
