The Lakeshore East park is so beautiful. The planners were so bright to build the park first. The plantings are maturing nicely and will look perfect when the perimeter work is finally completed.

Nice pics bvictor1,
I have a quick question for anyone, is the red crain for the podium and the yellow for the tower?

^ Yes. I had also seen a post a while back that mentioned there would be a 2nd tower crane for the podium as well - 3 tower cranes in all...

Thanks for the photos.

However, now my fear that the podium is going to be a total bore from street level has become a lot worse (especially along Columbus and the "Lake Street extension." I was expecting a lot more from Jeanne in this regard. Perhaps the slim budget was exhausted.

^ It doesn't seem that way to me. But then, I'm comparing it to the other 90% of podiums that have been built in the city recently, which is a pretty damn low standard

A "revised" model.......or what ????????

First....a big THANKS for the informative pics.....good work, good work ! To all, a question........is it just me, or do the balconies on this model look bulkier and shorter than they do on the early model pictures......with all due respect to the engineers who previously supported the idea that the balcony projections would be up to 12 feet.....given the height that the glass is, hopefully, 8' tall, I don't see a single balcony that would scale out to 12'.....am I missing something?

I believe that the tower portion of the model is the same one that was installed in 7/06, just the podium portion has been updated to show complete detail.

See BVictor1's post #462 for the original version of the podium model

Seems like they have really hit full stride on this one! Don't expect it to take too long to begin to rise. What a great time to be from chi! Trump, spire, aqua, waterview, other tower along the rive that I forget (300 something?) Anyway, one of the best overall collections of current projects in the world right now. By far.

There will be balconies that will cantilever out 12' a little higher up the tower. There will be special upturn beams to support these balconies.

^ Along the perimeter, I presume? A lot of torsion on those beams!

I was recently reading on the April 2007 issue of Civil Engineering magazine that they are planning on using a handheld Global Positioning System receiver that can locate the points of a curve which is making it easier to consider such irregular shapes. I was wondering does anybody have any more information on such technology.

I also wonder how the form work will be built? Will this be down with form work that can lock into itself at a variety of angles or will there be a few base shapes and the remainder of the shape is done with disposable form work (wood for instance), I imagine though the latter is not a very practical choice though.

The article also said they will be using a flexible type of formwork that can create various shapes.
