The facade is terrible IMO. Makes me think of a long boring courthouse with those columns, or perhaps a factory.

arghhh! I never thought I'd live to see a sports venue with a corporate name in the New York metro area. Now we have the Prudential Center for the Devils in Newark, Barclays Arena for the Nets in Brooklyn and shitty, ahem Citi Field in Queens.

IMO that really takes away the value of any history that may be made there, especially when names change every decade or so. Either that, or the names just sound stupid. Who would be proud to play in Minute Maid Park (formerly Enron Field) in Houston or Petco Park in San Diego? Those names are just dumb.

Of course there are exceptions where a corporate name sounds great at a venue, like Wrigley Field (Chicago), Busch Stadium (St. Louis), or Miller Park(Milwaukee). But it is an easy way to get millions of dollars a year, so maybe its just the Mets' way of compensating for the revenue lost in having approx. 10,000 less seats.

Ok, I'll shut up now.

there's a reason it's called "Flushing" - because the area looks like the contents of a toilet.

I dont really mind that much. I mean its not like naming a TEAM after a company. Oh wait we have the NY Red Bulls? oh, nevermind.

I dont think the stadium names sound that bad though, especially Citi Field.

Me and my brother took a wrong turn comming back from a Met game one time and ended up in a street like this. I felt like we were in a ghetto in Tijuana, it was really weird. I swear it was a dirt road in the middle of New York City.

Yeah, the guy who owned Wrigley's Chewing Gum acquired what was originally known as Weeghman Field (fun fact: it wasn't actually built for the Cubs but for the Whales of the short lived Federal League).

Anywho... it's a shame to see such a unique part of Queens (the Iron Triangle, that is) be demolished, but it's probably for the best in this case.

This ballpark looks promising. Too bad they changed the name. I felt the same way when they changed Comiskey Park to US Cellular Field

But daps to new yorkers for getting new parks for both baseball teams tho.

Well, it could have been a lot worse for a name. I mean, look at the merry-go-round of horrid names for stadiums and arenas around Miami and other towns.

I still hope the powers-that-be rename the #7 train station "William A Shea station at Willets Point". Small token but still a reminder...

Actually, while it's hard to make out in Carlos' photos, there is indeed bricklaying going on. You can see it on the right hand side in the second photo. (I caught it today for the first time coming from Flushing - looking quite good)
