In a hypothetical situation, What established companies would people like to see move downtown?

It would be nice to see CTV and Global have a presence downtown. Same goes for the Leader Post and Access Communications.

"Hypothetically"... the University. Downtown + a University Campus/Student Ghetto = critical mass for self-supporting entertainment/retail/culture and pedestrian life almost 24/7. Imagine if the U of R campus just kept building up around College Av & Broad St, that whole corridor would've been buzzing.

And it's been said before... more offices downtown are all right, but would only add to the 9-to-5 population. The shopping and services and retail that ended up going big box would've brought in more steady traffic day and night.

Hey, anyone have pictures of the new RCMP Heritage Centre? I thought it just opened recently.

Indeed, the university downtown would have been the best fit...but what can you do. Perhaps into the future the U of R will have a more significant presence downtown. There aren't too many universities in Western Canada whom are located downtown. U of W is the only one that comes to mind, no?

As a matter of fact I have tommorrow off work so I'm going to go around town and take some pics of all the construction areas around town.

Good read. Nice to see all the work going into making this development the best it can be. I really like the fact that all of the buildings (residential and commercial) will have frontage onto the sidewalks., instead of parking lots in between.

Thanks CCF, it looks like they're really going to try and do this project the right way

I love their focus on keeping everything as urban as possible.

I hope this project gets under way soon, before it drowns in rising costs

Looks like a step in the right direction that should have been done for most developments that last 10 years, at least 5.

Where any of the photos, minus the Copper Kettle, actually in Regina?

Not just Western Canada, but the Western US too I think. At least, Stanford is way out from San Francisco, UWashington away from central Seattle; though Portland State is pretty close to their downtown.

I remember there was a "Faculty of Science Satellite Facility" on Broad St near the Just Bean Brewed a few years back, but it didn't look like much. UBC and SFU both recently opened "facilities" in downtown Vancouver, and I think that's it in Western Canada. Not quite the same established campus feel as, say, McGill in Montreal or NYU in New York or Harvard in Cambridge, but at least there's plenty of room for the U of R to grow where it is, and they're getting some more on-campus life with the new residences too.

Great read, thanks! It raises the question, why aren't all new developments planned out like this? Obviously they _know_ this is a good way to build, so it's not like people just didn't think of it before.

Something like this is exactly what should've gone up instead of Broad St Crossing.

Wow that is very impressive and fantastic news. The Colonial Style is definately my favourite.

That said, I know its already been mentioned somewhere in this thread and I am too lazy to find it but how tall are the 2 towers in the project going to be??? Damn this is exciting..........
