I was thinking about where a 62 story tower would rise.

First, I thought it would rise on the large parking lot across the street from Evo but that's the site of the Grand Towers.

Then I thought of the area around Metropolis and I figured out the possible site. There is a nice sized parking lot right next to the 801 Tower that just might be the site. I couldn't think of anywhere else a 62 story building to rise in South Park. I'll try to find a pic of the site...ahhh...a perfect pic. For those who don't know, the 801 Tower is the cool little tower across the street of 777. You can clearly see the parking lot where a tower could rise.

Still in the planning stage are three nearby towers at 11th and Olive streets, including an unnamed 62-story skyscraper, according to a Meruelo spokesman.

In case people haven't noticed the new downtown news quarterly update is out. Lots of interesting updates like:

- Herald examiner is not totally dead (but Urban Partners backed out)
- a new boutique hotel is opening next month in south park
- 51 story condo project may break ground in city west this year
- 10,000 sq. ft. grocery/restaurant in the Brockman will have late hours

No. It has to do with new elevator technology according to LAB. BTW that Maguire tower likely won't even start for 3 years according to the DT News update.

No, they said they expect occupancy in 36 months (3 years) which means they would have to start construction this year or early next year to meet that that quota.

You all are overlooking the most important info of all:

Quote:
Peggy Moretti of Maguire Properties said construction on the project at Seventh and Figueroa streets overlooking the Harbor Freeway would not start until leases have been signed for 40% to 50% of the office space, but that the company is speaking with a number of potential tenants.

Almost everything, inc a proj's design, height, estimated time schedule, landscaping, retail, this or that, takes a back seat to demand for new condos or apts or office space. That's why a list that doesn't include info about how quickly or slowly space is filling up in the hood is incomplete & not too satisfying to me.

I don't wanna get all wrapped up in the details of a proj only to have the devlpr cancel plans at the last minute, or delay his startup schedule for so many months or yrs that the proj might just as well have never been publicized to begin with.

As is, 717 Ninth would be Downtown's tallest pure residential tower, surpassing 1100 Wilshire (where the 37 stories contain 17 levels of parking) and 717 Olympic, Hanover Company's under-construction 26-story apartment complex at Olympic Boulevard and Figueroa Street. But it may hold that title for less than a year.

Damn! I like this devlpr's tude!

So how come Astani, by contrast, has been sounding so nervous & even wussified about the cost & profit margins of everything!?

However, the article says that Meruelo's tower will cost only about $120 million. I hope that's correct, but it's hard to believe when another report says that converting the old Roosevelt bldg alone will cost more than that, or around $150 million. But if the 120 mil figure is accurate, & that applies to a bldg that will house 214 condos, it seems that Meruelo should have enough breathing space to make his proj pencil out.

FINALLY!!! But I'm assuming the ppl announcing that date aren't jerking everyone's chain. IOW, I'm assuming they're not like what they've done previously, in which their proj was supposed to have broken ground over a yr ago.

Or that they're not like this devlpr, who was quoted several months ago as saying confidently that his proj would be underway by April. Yea, & the check is in the mail, Santa claus lives in the north pole, & pigs fly!!

GLASS TOWER CONDOMINIUMS

Amir Kalantari said he anticipates a summer groundbreaking on a 25-story, $60 million ground-up residential glass tower at 1050 S. Grand Ave. in South Park. The owner and developer said the glass-clad high-rise designed by Destefano and Partners would hold 128 high-end condominiums ranging from 850 to more than 3,500 square feet, costing from $450,000 up to $3 million. Kalantari said the venture, which would include 23 retail spaces, would take two years to complete.

But even with all the dragged out schedules & projs that eventually may be cancelled---although I can't deal with the thought of parkfifth not going forward, even if its delayed for only a short while----DT, when it comes to new devlpt & ongoing improvements, is easily the most interesting place in all of So Ca. Makes other hoods seem like they're:

Added The Medallion to the front page.

I like the sounds of 62 story towers that aren't yet on our list.

Meruelo has some serious cash! Every since he took his company public, he's on fire. Did anyone else read that he plans to break ground on a new tower every six months? I love this guy, where do I sign up to invest in his company

I see the very first project listed on the front page is "717 Flower" and it says it'll be 40 stories...on the first page it's listed as "under construction". But when I go to the "high-rise construction" part of this forum I don't see it anywhere. What's the status?

A 40-story tower for LA is big news...I would think there would definitely be a construction thread to keep people updated. In any case....anyone have any news or pictures of progress/updates for the 717 Flower tower?
