Seems everyday there's a new house being framed, looks like they're filling in the little bit on the north edge... I'm sure Canadian Tire is a fine neighbour.



The Riverbend area, seems like they've been working this land for a couple years, any guesses for when they'll actually start building here?

As far as housing shortage goes, I heard from a few people that a couple companies (can't remember the names right now) have stopped taking new house orders until maybe late fall maybe even december(?) just cause they have enough work already to keep them busy until then. But that's just hearsay tho. I also heard that because of the shortage of serviced land in the city that lots have been selling for $100,000+ ...but that seems awfully high to me.

Munro Homes in Regina, which has developments in Lakeridge and Regina Beach, stopped pre-selling homes on April 2.

"We have taken the unprecedented step of actually suspending sales," said Heather McGinnis, project consultant at Munro Homes. "We can only do what we can do because there isn't an ability for us to hire another painter or another carpenter."

According to McGinnis, Munro Homes has done about 75 per cent of their sales volume in 25 per cent of the year.

"Extraordinary -- that's the best word to describe (sales)," McGinnis added. "On a daily basis, even though we have suspended sales, we have continued to sell land ... People have been very patient and they are coming in and buying their lots knowing that we can't actually begin work on a house, but they want to tie up the lot."

Dundee Developments has some homes with possession dates that extend as far as next fall, and Munro Homes has possession dates of up to one year.

Maybe that's what they were talking about?

I sure hope it is Regina... It would be great for our city and just as important no one currently here should lose their job.

lol my parents have been looking to build ah ome for quite some time and when we went to dundee yesstrday they told my mom that they stopped selling land because the posession dates are way to high ( 12-18 months) and they wanted to lower it so theywere going to finish building the houses that they are building right now first and then start selling more land. And if you wanted some of the land that they are going to put up for sale... you would have to be on a waiting list

Saskatchewan May Lose New Pool Company
May 09, 2007

If successful, by the end of the month the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool will be no more.

With Agricore United accepting its takeover offer, a new company will stand in its place.

The new business, whatever it may be called, will be the largest agricore company in Canada, operating on an international level.

The Wheat Pool will technically have operations from Thunder Bay to Vancouver and numerous assets in between.

CEO Mayo Schmidt isn't guaranteeing that's its head office will remain in Regina saying the decision must be made in the best interest of the company.

On top of that, the new company will have about 4000 employees many of them duplicate jobs because of the merger.

So Schmidt confirms there will definitely be job losses.

A name for the new company has not chosen yet, but Schmidt said the company will continue to have a strong head office presence in Regina.

I would guess because there isn't much available. Is this a real plan or just a wild goose chance to deflect from the criticism received by council and city hall over their lack of concentration on the inner city ?

To me it looks like a good idea and an incredible opportunity to start to improve central Regina but I am jaded by the fact that many of these "ideas" get shelved or are only for the polticos to say they are working on a solution. That said, I would surely like to see this project completed, fully.

Well Quimby your guess would be wrong, there is alot and I mean alot going on and for me to share it would be going against my employers wishes.

Why are you so negative? Who pisses in your corn flakes every morning that you can't accept anything good and are critical of everything posted here.

I will say this it is very hard to get programs up and running for the inner city when everytime you turn around housing prices and the price of construction goes up 10%. Develop a program around that. I am sure you will have some type of solution that involves a huge sum of money, and the result a huge tax increase.

Actually, my critical eye comes from years of watching these things happen, big hype, lots of stories and photos and then nothing. Followed by another article exposing the poverty in Regina , repeat cycle.

The current labour and housing market is quite unstable but to complain about when one looks to encourage the type of mindset and development that leads to an overactive market seems to be at the very least hypocritical. It leads to to an old saying, " You made your bed, now lie in it."

As for tax increases that is the current council direction, not mine. Just direct a million from the city managers office ,or dock Rathwell some pay for plagiarism and not being at work, that should save his whole salary, stop the increase in staff in the Mayor's office,etc. There is nearly 2 million in savings there for investment in the community, not consolidating power.

As I have stated, I hope it goes through. Overall, the plan is an intelligent plan and goes about in creating the type of community that will attract/retain the talent, we need in Regina. I just take a wait and see attitude.

I didn't even know it was closed until I drove by there a couple of days ago. I thought that place was kinda cool...reminded me of a small town service station.
