That article reads mocklingly of the entire campaign. I am surprised it was published.

^ are you formerly of the Tokyo 7 boards?

'Think Regina' is vaguely Orwellian sounding.

I do think the Saskatchewan ad campiagn is having some effect here in Calgary as a few people I know are considering moving back (or there for the first time if they are from elsewhere). Most people seem to have a preference for Saskatoon as a relocation site, unfortunately. I have seen news stories though about the housing boom in Regina, which is certainly great news for the city.

Meh, let them move to Saskatoon.

I think a lot of it is perception. (Honestly, if you were going solely on the information in the Regina and Saskatoon Construction threads on this site, you would think that Regina is miles ahead of Saskatoon right now.) That's a why I think these campaigns are important. Even I Love Regina, which seems pointless on the surface (how much 'I Love Regina' merchandise do you see on any given day?). It's a morale booster and provides the basis for improvement. It's almost like pride of ownership, in a way...and for the first time in a long time, the majority of people you meet are proud to tell you they're from Regina. Those are the people who are ultimately going to make a difference in this city, because they are the ones who care enough to do something.

Probably in terms of numbers. At this time it just seems like there are more proposed developments and projects underway in Regina than Saskatoon.

I think a lot more U of S alumnists are in Calgary than U of R given the fact that the U of S is larger, hence people's preference for Saskatoon as a relocation choice.

I know of certain people considering Regina and there are certainly good career paths people can follow there.

I loved Fiacco's, " It is due to our strategic strategy..."

Talks in third person and has yet to master the English language, my lord and he's our Mayor. Since anecdotes seem to count as evidence or proof for people's ideas and theories, I'll share one.

Speaking to several of my friends over the past few month from Calgary, Vancouver and the island to Toronto and Montreal, I have mentioned the economic upturn the hot housing market and the fact they could have a nice house and yard, etc. Most stated, " I would move to Regina but the smilin' muppet of a Mayor is a national joke."

^ I don't care for Fiacco, but that seems a little extreme. Who makes a decision to live somewhere because of the mayor, and how many people outside of Regina know who Fiacco is? He is hardly a national joke.

After the Maclean's magazine articles, many people know who Pat Fiacco is and his constant whining on behalf of FCM. The man has a national presence but not a good one. That makes the whole city look bad, especially when so many ensure he is elected.

Here you are at it again. Many of us who don't want to get into this debate have asked a number of times to just drop the Fiacco debate. Again, I am asking you nicely, if you wish to discuss Fiacco...PLEASE, PLEASE create a separate thread. Those of us who have NO interest in debating politics shouldn't be subject to it.

Then don't reply, silly.

But the stupidity of the electors in Regina isn't politics, it's stupidity, and if this keeps people from moving here then it should be addressed. However, if you love Fiacco that much, don't reply. Jeez.

Me replying is not the point. The fact is those of us who have no interest in the matter have to read and sort through it.

Again, the thread is Regina Construction. This has nothing to do with what people across the country think of the mayor.

My opinion of Fiacco is irrelevant. See the thread title.

I don't love Fiacco. And again, that's moot. See the thread title.
What is the point, again ? Besides your rotten attitude ?

No one is forcing you to read anything. It's called freedom of expression and I am going to use it. Thanks.

I didn’t think there were a huge number of developments happening in Regina? Is there?
I guess we don't discuss every single project in the Saskatoon thread, or the possibility of moving our rail yards and creating a river with bridges in its place.

The point is that the thread is called Regina Construction. I could care less what you think of Fiacco but like CCF said, keep it in a different thread.

Actually, there are quite a few projects going on in Regina, for a city our size at least. I dont knwo, maybe Saskatoon has as many or more, but you guys dont seem to talk about them

Here are some big projects currently under construction in Regina (what I can think of off the top of my head)

- 118 room, 7 story Wingate Hotel, downtown (as ugly and suburban as it may be)
- 4 floor addition to Victoria Place, adding 20 new luxury condos to downtown. The building will be 12 stories
- Downtown Army and Navy building being replaced by offices and ground level retail
- New 4(?) story bus depot downtown
- new $40 million museum which will be one of the biggest tourist traps in western Canada

I know I'm missing some, anyone else wanna finish the list?

And of course, the most exciting project is the proposed Qu'appelle residential towers to be built just outside of downtown. And rumours of a new tallest

EDIT: Thanks CCF

Eeep. I didn't think that such a statement was going to be so controversial? The possibility of moving the rail yards would free up a vast amount of space. You wouldn't mention a prospective development that would tie downtown to the Warehouse district?? How is discussing the move of the rail-yards any different than discussing the river landing project. Both are/would be lots open to development. One person mentioned something about creating a "river" and somehow that can be perceived as us discussing it?

In terms of Regina development....

Downtown
Victoria Place Expansion
Leader Building (Grocery store, arts offices, lofts)
Legion building (Performance Venue)
Wingate Hotel
STC Head Office and Depot
Broad Street Crossing
Potential Casino hotel
Qu'Appelle Diocese Land, conversion of vacant land into residential for hundreds or possibly over 1000.
Cornwall Profession Building renewal
Other new shops/restaurants/etc
Rumoured new tallest
Sale of Former Superstore
Core renewal plan

University
U of R Lab building
Sask. Provincial Lab
New Research Park Building
Canadian Police Research Centre

Other
Terraces at River Heights Condos x2?
Lakeshore Condos
RCMP Museum
Huge renewal of IPSCO place
23rd Avenue Residential proposal (condos, single detached)
Various Proposals at YQR
Various proposals for Wascana Park

Not bad at all I'd say. Again, what I said was not meant as a "we're doing better" sort of remark. If Saskatoon has more projects in planning/under construction. Then I digress!

I've been away from this forum for a while and don't want to sift through pages of irrelevant posts to find out info. What is Broad St Crossing? What is the Victoria Place Expansion?
