This may be ridiculously obvious but the elevated portions of the RAV/Canada Line look exactly like the Millennium Line. To me that is a big plus because it will help connect the two systems in people's minds. To 95% of the population is will be SkyTrain, whether that is its official branding or not.

On that note, does anyone know for certain if the RAV/Canada Line will be incorporated into the SkyTrain brand?

Yeah. I don't even call it Canada Line, unless I'm talking about it specifically. SkyTrain all the way!

I was thinking actually.. New York has so many damn subway lines. They have the A-train, B-train, C-train, D-train, E-train up to Z-train. These letters are posted on their trains.

We should have the C-train, M-train and E-train posted on our trains, just for the effect. We could be all "cool" and say: "I took the C-train from the airport"

Definitely not practical, seeing as we have only 3 lines...

I think that's more because in NYC they interline trains on the same track - so it's actually useful on the Expo Line too - E-Line to Surrey, M-Line (which we already say) to Burnaby and beyond. So would that be the A-Line and the R-Line?

++++++++++

The Concesssion Agreement with InTransitBC and the governments require it to be called the "Canada Line". The Skytrain trademark is owned by one of BC Transit/BC Rapid Transit Company/GVTA(Translink), and there was no licence of the trademark to InTransitBC in the concession agreement - so InTransitBC is not allowed to use to mark unless they license it later. That suggests that it won't be marketed as Skytrain - but since Translink is responsible for fares, etc - not sure about marketing. But if the mark is being used to advertise the service, and the service is provided by InTransitBC, then I think that InTransit BC would need a licence (even if they are not doing the marketing directly). Trademarks represent the source of goods or services, and if the service provider is not the owner of the mark, then there's the possibility of consumer confusion/misrepresentation.

I still insist that the Richmond line be renamed the Olympic Line post-Olympics, and the airport line be renamed the Stanley Line in the event that the Canucks win the Cup (and it is also the name of an old Governor General, for further justification).

Sounds a heck of a lot better than Canada Line. The federal government should fund rapid transit whether it gets a name like "Canada Line" or not.

Canucks FTW!!!

Either the Canada line will be renamed, or another line will be named the olympic line post olympics in honour of the games... either way im pretty sure Vancouver will have an olympic line at some point.

Wasnt it an issue with the trademark?
Last I heard they're still waiting for the approval to name the 2nd Ave Station "Olympic Village" and that's only one station.

Would even the IOC be so — ungrateful as to deny the city hosting it use of its name on some infrastructure that is crucial to the operation of its games for commemorative purposes?

Just got back from Hong Kong.....the MTR is amazing. They announce everything in three languages: Cantonese, Mandarin, and English. And unlike our system, the announcements are clear and loud.

They announce the next station 5-10 secs after departing the previous station: "Next station, Central."

"Please mind the gap between the station and the platform."

They also announce all interchanges at stations. The acceleration and speed is amazingly fast and the trains are smooth and extremely quiet. Platforms/trains are 3x longer than our platforms.....and the turnstiles and station concourses are just amazing....wow.

"mind the gap" That's a London thing.

As for Olympic Line, I believe it's fine. "Olympics" is trademarked. As are the rings. od, your thoughts?

I doubt that the plural would make a difference, there would could be "confusion in the marketplace" and therefore infringement would occur.
I read in the newspaper that the Olympic Committee requires that each host country pass specific legislation protecting the Olympic marks. I suppose that is to give it to trump all other trademarks - like what government organizations have (in Canada) - known as "official marks". Official marks can be registered and trump all other marks, even if they do not meet the usual criteria for trademark registrations.
